ricky x nini

I was at Big Red's playing cod when I got the call. The call that made me drop everything and skate all the way to the hospital. I didn't know what to think, feel, or do. All I knew is that I had to be there for Nini.

Now I'm sitting in the waiting room. I can't see Nini because I'm not her immediate family.

My leg is bouncing up anxiously, a nervous tendency I have. All I was told was that Nini got in a bad car accident.

And It's all my fault.

Well, they didn't say that, but it is. I was supposed to meet up with her after school to teach her how to drive. I have my driver's license, but haven't finished saving up for a car yet. Nini got one for her 16th birthday and asked me to help her learn. Instead, I completely forgot about it and she tried to practice on her own.

All I can do now is wait. I've been sitting in this chair without moving for the past 2 hours. Nini's moms have seen me a few times and checked on me, but there's nothing they could really do.

"Is anyone here for Nini Salazar-Roberts?" A doctor asks, looking down at a clipboard.

"Yes uh here! Is she okay?" I ask, getting up quickly.

"She's going to be okay. She's suffering from a minor concussion and arm fracture, but she's awake now," he explains, smiling reassuringly.

I let out a breath of air that I didn't even know I was holding. Relief washes over me, "What room is she in?"

"Down the hall to the left, room 248," he says.

I nod my head and rush to her room. Inside Mama C is knitting a yellow sweater, and Mama D is talking to Nini who sounds tired.

All eyes go to me as soon as I enter the room. Nini smiles and stretches her arms out for me to hug her, "Ricky! Come here, big boy."

We all laugh at the nickname. I walk up to her and wrap my arms around her lightly, kissing her forehead.

"I missed your hugs," she mumbles as I pull away.

"I was worried sick about you," I say.

"He's not lying. Loverboy was out there for almost 5 hours," Mama C chuckles.

"5 hours? You're adorable," Nini gushes causing me to blush.

Was I really out there for 5 hours? It didn't feel that long. But it was all worth it. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now.

I push my hands into the pockets of my jeans and listen in to the conversation Nini started up, pitching in every now and then.

Unfortunately, Nini can't leave until tomorrow. Even though they put up a big fight, she convinced her moms to go home. Now it's almost midnight and we're still talking. I'm lying next to her with my arms pulling her close. Her head rests on my chest and my head rests on hers.

"You should probably start going now," she sighs.

"I'm not leaving you," I say.

"Ricky It's midnight," she smiles tiredly, looking up at me.

"And I'm not leaving you here alone. I'll just text my dad," I say.

"This bed is uncomfortable," she says.

"I don't mind."

"You're lying."

"I'm not I promise. I'm staying here tonight and that's final," I say, my mind already made up.

"Fine. But I'm gonna give you the best back massage ever when my arm is healed," she giggles.

"Sounds good to me," I smile and kiss her forehead.

"I love you, Richard Bowen," she smiles into my chest, drawing circles on my shirt.

"I love you, Nini."
