Chapter 1

Another day begins. Another ordinary day at school with the same old lessons with the same old teachers and the students who belittle you with every stride you take. But I am not ordinary, in fact I’m as distant from it as you can get and by that I don’t mean that I’m some distressed teenager trying so hard to fit in but no one understands her. I’m supernatural. I’m not the only one at this school let alone the country, the world even. There are two separate kinds of us, the Vampires and the Werewolves. I’m a born Vampire I know it, both of my parents are Vampires so it’s evident that I’ll be one as well. If you have parents from both sides, which is intensely frowned upon, it’s the father that determines the nature of the child.

I see the other kind at my school, I spoke to some of the in elementary but I’ve never spoke to one since. I’m told not to. The one that I’m most intimidated by is Hunter Carson, he’s in my year at school. He struts around with the rest of his pack acting like they own the place, it’ll be worse when they actually inherit their gene which you don’t inherit until you’re around 16 years old. I only have a couple months to go but I know that Hunter only has weeks until his transformation, his pack aren’t long after him maybe even before me.

My brothers are already Vampires, they have been for a couple of years and they’re currently in their final year of high school. They didn’t inherited the gene until three whole weeks after their 16th birthday, whereas Blair’s big brother was a week before his birthday. I know that my brothers detest Hunter and his kind but I don’t know if they’ve ever even breathed a word to one of them in the past few years.

“Come on Clara, get out.” my brother Dylan moans at me to get out of his car.

“Yeah I’m coming.” I roll my eyes and climb out of the car before shutting the door behind me gently.

The steps up towards the school doors are littered with people that I have to try and clamber over to reach the top.  I finally make it to even ground and stare at the two black doors ahead of me, I get caught in a day dream until I feel something jolt me from behind causing me to plummet face first on to the concreate. I let out a small screech of pain as my hands slam down on the ground to attempt to protect me, making them tingle and nip with pain. I gaze upwards to see what caused me to fall and I find a tall dark figure looming over me. Hunter Carson.

“Sorry, my mistake.” He says with no tone to his deep husky voice which directs shivers down my spine.

I can’t even respond to him due to the astonishment of his words, we’ve not exchanged a word since we were roughly ten years old why would he even take the time to apologise to me now?

Dylan bends down and stares at me with uneasiness flooding his face.

“Are you okay?” he asks me but I’m still incapable of verbalising anything. He must think I’m overreacting or “being a girl.”

“Dylan, help her up.” My other bother Cody, Dylan’s twin brother demands and Dylan helps me to my feet. Cody has always been more dominant than Dylan, I thinks it’s a result of him being the older twin (by like five minutes). The boys are completely identical but of evidently I can tell them apart.

“Can you see properly, how many fingers am I holding up?” Dylan holds up three fingers up and stares at me quizzically. I finally string up enough courage to speak.

“Dylan stop it I’m fine.” I shove his hand out of the way and a frown appears on his face. Cody pats Dylan on the back and they start to head the direction of where their friends sit, of course their group of friends purely consists of Vampires which makes me not want to go anywhere near them.
