The Swimmer Head
Two more laps, just two more there and back , breath ,breath. Coach had been brutal this morning: drills and IMs filled the schedule. I was nearing the end with my last 50. But lucky me had so swim my last two lengths doing butterfly. Crap. Coming out of breaststroke I touch the wall with both hands always making race worthy turns. Bringing my legs around I fall on my back and push of from the wall. Stretching my arms out streamlining I keep my head down watching the blue pattern tiles go by.
My breath is slowly dwindling away as I stay under for as long as possible trying to get as much distance as I could before coming up again. Butterfly may not be my favourite stroke, wait no scratch that I HATE IT . But aside from the fact that its hard, takes forever to get right and is tiering it's no that bad. Most people describe butterfly as elephant swimming. I do not disagree but once you get it you feel like your flying over the water.
My arms come up just skimming the water before plunging back in. I tuck my head down under the water kicking one before bringing my arms back out of the water. I pass over the red line on the pool floor telling me the wall is close. It only takes me a few more strokes to reach the wall. Touching the wall I push off on my back executing the crappiest open turn the world has seen and didn't bother with kicks off the wall I was to tired. The last twenty five meters was hell. I looked up once to see my coach staring down at me disapprovingly. Normally a look like that wall all I needed to pick up the pace but today I was just more annoyed. The wall came closer excruciatingly slowly. On my last stroke I slapped the wall happy I finished another swim practice without dying. I pulled the goggles away from the aching eyes and peeled my cap off. AHHHH Nothing feels better than being rid of that piece of rubber. A friend once discribed them as head condoms, I bet you can never look at a swim cap the same way again. Yep nether can I.

To all other fellow swimmers I know you know how a swim cap feels and dont try to tell me they dont feel like that. So my friend told me that she thought swim caps were like head condoms and i just died laughing because it was so true.
