"Chris, are you okay?" He backed away from the door slowly. He looked at me; his eyes filled with fear. I walked into the opening.
"I don't understand..," Chris said. When I looked into the door, I saw Jasmine and some other guy, I didn't know, starring back at me and Chris. I pulled the door shut quickly, and when I turned around, Chris was gone. I went running down the stairs and couldn't find him. I went outside, and he was sitting on the porch, looking up into the black sky filled with stars. I sat down next to him.
"Chris, are you okay?" He looked at me, sadness filled his eyes. It was almost like he couldn't speak. "You can trust me. I know you don't know me very well, but I'm always here to listen." He was still looking at me. Finally his silence broke.
"Thanks, Hayleigh. It means a lot. I don't understand how she could do this. We've been together for two years."
"Chris, can we talk..?" Chris and I turned around; there was Jasmine standing behind us. Chris got up, but walked down the stairs, away from her.
"Jas, I think he just needs time." She looked at me, tears filled her eyes.
"You're a great friend, Hayleigh. Not just to me, but to Chris as well. You're not taking sides and I appreciate it."
"That's what I'm here for." With that, I walked away to find Chris. He had walked down a path into the woods.
"Chris.." I yelled, hoping he'd answer me back. Before I knew it, I was standing behind him. He was sitting on a log. I walked up to him, sitting next to him.
"Hayleigh... You can't tell anyone.." He had a tray on his lap. It had a white substance on it, split into lines. He had a circular tool in his hand.
"Chris, wha are you doing? This won't solve your problems." I looked at him, concerned. I loved partying when I was Tia, and I wasn't really a good girl, but I had never done drugs.
"It's only coke. If you tried it, you would understand why I do it. Every time Jas and I had a problem or a fight, this is what I would turn to. Now that I know she's sleeping with some other guy, I'm no longer good enough. This is the only way I know how to cope." I was still looking at him.
"Chris, why don't you come to my house tonight. We can talk and you can just chill. I'll help you figure out how to talk to Jas and we can deal with that tomorrow, okay?" He looked at me, his eyes lit up. It's like no one had ever been there for him.
"Hayleigh?"
"Yeah?"
"I know we don't know each other very well, but you're already a better friend to me than anyone has ever been. Thank you. I would love to come to your place tonight." I smiled. Hopefully I would be able to help him break this addiction.
"That's what I'm here for. Let me just get my friend to pick us up, okay?" He smiled at me; I got off the log and walked away a little.
"Hayleigh? Are you okay? It's only ten, why are you calling me already?"
"I'm fine. Something happened within the first hour. Can you come pick me and my friend Chris up? He caught his girlfriend cheating on him. I'll fill you in tomorrow, but we really need to help him."
"I'll be there in thirty, okay?"
"Thanks, Derek." I hung up the phone and walked back over to Chris.
"He'll be here in about a half hour. Let's go back to the house and wait for him." Chris and I made our way back to the house and say on the porch, waiting.
