Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! This chapter should be clear of any grammar mistakes, but the actual chapter hasn't been looked at much. So if anything doesn't make sense, please let me know. I wrote this kinda quickly and didn't give myself much time to think it over. I didn't want anyone to have to wait another month for an update HAHAHA!

AS MERLIN AND MORDRED trudged up what felt like the tallest hill in the world, he prepared himself for everything that was about to go down. Whether it be an animal or an evil sorceress, his magic was ready to strike.
The peak of the hill finally came into view only moments later and Merlin took a deep inhale, psyching himself up. Mordred gripped his sword tightly and Merlin could feel his magic begin to stir as well.
Finally, Merlin could see it. A cloaked figure staring down at the castle below the hill with a crossbow in their hands. He had every intention of blasting the intruder right then and there, but the figure caught him by surprise by turning.
His eyes widened when he saw Kara's face appear from the shadows of the cloak. She gripped the bow tighter in her hands, pointing it directly at him.
"Kara," Mordred mumbled in shock, his words coming out as barely a whisper. He was frightened at the sight, Merlin could tell. Up until this point, he thought she was a friend.
"I'm sorry," Kara whispered back, equally as pained, then she raised the crossbow, letting an arrow loose.
The following events happened in what felt like slow motion. Merlin could barely register anything. He felt powerless against Kara, even though he knew he was stronger. His feet seemed to stay stuck on the ground like glue and his hands remained at his sides as if they were restrained.
The arrow flew from the bow at an alarming speed, barreling right towards Merlin's core. He tried to lunge away but his feet remained planted at the ground.
"Merlin!" He heard Mordred call out to him and before he knew what was happening, the knight appeared in front of him.
Mordred's body lunged between him and the arrow, acting as a barrier. When Merlin finally felt unstuck, he tried throwing his lover out of the way, but it was too late.
The arrow struck Mordred like lightning. It charged at him and struck him in the shoulder, the tip emerging through his skin until the shaft was deep in his shoulder. Mordred's body fell, cascading to the floor in defeat.
Merlin cried out in extreme distress. He couldn't control the surge of anger that flew out of him, causing Kara to fly into the sky and land on the ground far enough away. He then ran to Mordred, knees falling to the floor and hands wrapping around him to cradle his head. "Mordred," he cried, choking out a sob.
He quickly took the scarf off his neck and brought it to the oozing wound, wrapping it delicately around the shaft of the arrow. It quickly soaked up the blood, a terrible sign for Mordred's fate.
Mordred's eyes looked up at his; beautifully blue but so full of pain. The knight's hand trembled as it tried reaching up to touch his face. "Shh, it's okay, Merlin. I'll be okay," he whispered, though his words sounded exhausted, like it was taking all the strength in his being to utter them.
More tears fell from Merlin's face as he clung to his lover for dear life. He couldn't lose him, not like this. Merlin noticed how the colour in Mordred's face seemed to drain faster than it normally would. He knew he was going to lose him. His best friend was going to die and there was nothing he could do about it.
His head shot up to Kara in accusation. "What did you do?! You hurt him!" He screamed furiously. Kara seemed to shake in fear, stepping farther away from him.
