It was early Christmas morning.
Still pitch black outside and the cold air seeping into the kitchen sent a chill down the lone brunettes spine. Sitting on a stool at the long counter, his hands slipped further into his wooly jumper sleeves and his fingers gripped the warm mug of coffee, drawing it closer to his lips. His puffs of breath mingling with the steam from his drink.
Cold.
And Bam knew the only thing that would warm his skin was the comforting embrace of his love.
He glanced to the window but the darkness outside blocked his view.
Khun was away with Hwaryun and a couple of other team members, probing for information about the next floor so they could be as prepared as possible. Bam knew it was important, that his partner was doing this for his sake, but that didn’t mean he had to like it.
However, Khun had promised he would be back today, to celebrate Christmas together, and Bam, in his excitement and impatience to see his lover, was awake at a ridiculous hour waiting for his return.
And although Bam was surrounded by his dear friends, the team members that had stayed behind, the loneliness he felt whenever parted from the bluenette threatened to eat him alive.
His only wish this Christmas was for his dear Aguero to hurry home quickly and wrap him in his tender hold.
But that was a lie.
For Bam and Aguero held another secret wish.
One that sat very close to both of their hearts.
The one thing that this blissfully happy couple wanted above all, the only prayer they had made that year and many years previously…
They wanted a child.
And there was a time that they thought it could happen.
Years ago, after the war against Jahad was won, after their fighting ceased and all that was left was peace, the tired couple were approached by the Workshop.
They were told that a new experiment was starting up and they were being given special priority to be test subjects.
Obviously this raised alarm bells and the pair were not interested in the slightest, however when it was all explained to them, the couple were given a ray of hope that they never believed to be possible.
The Workshop wanted to see if they could create a child using DNA from two members of the same sex.
With Bam’s high profile as the Slayer Jyu Viole Grace, his partner being a famously ruthless son of Khun Edahn, not to mention being two of the main fighters that had defeated Jahad’s army, the Workshop were keen to offer the trial to them. If it succeeded, their names would be great publicity.
It was an unspoken desire for the two. A child. They’d never openly talked about it because, quite frankly, a child genetically related to both of them was physically impossible. But now, the Workshop were tempting them with dreams and possibilities.
Of course they wanted to hear more about it before committing to anything. The Workshop was known for its dubious practises and so the couple needed to know that everything would be safe, harmless, before they agreed.
It was then explained that all the Workshop would need from Khun and Bam was their seed. If they would donate a certain quantity of it each month, the Workshop would be able to conduct experiments by adjusting and editing the DNA to see if they could merge them or something along those lines.
That was the first step.
If it succeeded then the successful specimen would be implanted into an artificial body that would simulate the pregnancy process. The Workshop would be able to observe the growth and provide everything the unborn child would need.
