chapter seventeen - school's out for summer
Noah's POV
I frown, waiting impatiently on Erin's roof as the hot summer sun beats down on my skin.
After school let out for summer, Erin and I had fallen into a... weird routine. It all started when I drove by her house one day and saw her tanning in her front yard-- I mean, come on, there's no way I wasn't at least going to try and tap that. The weird part was how easily she'd given in, and how easily she'd been giving in since that day. Ever since then, I'd started coming over after I finished cleaning pools a few times a week, and we'd hook up... and that was it. It was the only thing I'd been begging my sweet Jewish God for-- a hot girl who just wanted sex.
The perfect setup... except I'm still in love with her and she still chooses to ignore that. I'd always try to, like, actually talk to her after we'd hookup, but she pushes me away the second I start getting too close.
I'd never had a girl hold the cards in a relationship like this. I'd never been in love, let alone been in a relationship where I cared more than she did. It honestly kind of hurt. All I want to do is tell her how much I love her, but I can't. The only reason I'd continued with our friends-with-benefits arrangement was because at least I got to spend time with her.
I give her window another knock and hear her giggle from inside. She opens the blinds and pulls the window open, letting me in. I take a deep breath in relief as the cool air-conditioned air hits my skin. I take a seat at the edge of her bed, and she comes to sit beside me.
"How was your day?" She looks over at me.
"I cleaned Brittany's pool," I shrug, as the corners of her mouth twitch into a small frown. "What?" I furrow my eyebrows in confusion.
"Nothing," she shrugs, letting out a nervous laugh. "I just didn't know you cleaned Brittany's pool." A small smirk creeps across my face, as I realize why she was acting so uncomfortable.
"Are you jealous?" I grin, making her laugh and roll her eyes at me.
"I'm not jealous," she scoffs. "If anything, I'm jealous that Brittany has a pool," she mutters, failing to muffle down the heat rushing to her cheeks.
"How was your day?" I change the subject, seeing a wave of relief fall over her face.
"It was fine," she sighs dramatically, falling backwards onto the bed to lay on her back. "I went to Finn's for a while," she shrugs. I feel my jaw clench, but before I can attempt to conceal it, her face lights up in a devilish grin. "Now who's jealous," she teases, making me scoff and lay down beside her.
"I'm not jealous of Finn," I attempt to convince her but obviously not well enough due to her growing smile. "Brittany asked me to invite you to a party tonight at her house," I tease.
"I know, Finn already invited me," she smirks. I frown at her playfully before quickly reaching out and pulling her into my chest. She looks up at me with a small smile before I place a small kiss on her lips.
"I started listening to The Strokes while I was cleaning pools today," I smile over at her.
"They're good, right?" She smirks in satisfaction. I roll my eyes and reluctantly nod in defeat. "I told you that you wouldn't die if you listened to something other than Van Halen," she teases. I muffle down a grin before placing another small kiss on her lips. She smiles into the kiss and climbs on top of me.

Erin's POV
Noah and I pull up to Brittany's house to see a plethora of cars already flooding the large driveway. He lets go of my hand to put the car in park, and I get out of the car and excitedly make my way over to the front door-- Noah trailing close behind me.
I open the door and grin, hearing a Kanye West song I couldn't remember the name of playing loudly throughout the house. A familiar arm wraps around my waist, and I let Noah guide me over to the kitchen to get drinks. I begin pouring a mixture of vodka and sprite into a Solo cup and my eyes widen, hearing a shrill voice scream my name from behind me. I turn around seeing a very drunk Quinn running up to me. I laugh as she almost tackles me into a hug.
"Oh my God, Erin's here," she yells at the ceiling excitedly, making me laugh. "Puck, can I steal your arm candy for a minute?" She giggles, making Noah crack a small smile and nod at her. I give him an apologetic look as she takes my arm and pulls me out of the kitchen.
"You can't even tell you haven't drank in nine months," I tease, making her throw her head back in laughter.
"You aren't drunk enough," she pouts.
"I literally just got here," I laugh.
"We need to play pong so you can catch up... immediately," she smiles, dragging me down the stairs to Brittany's basement, where a pong table was set up. I laugh and join Quinn across from Mike and Matt.
Puck's POV
After many drinks and forty excruciating minutes of listening to Tina from Glee Club cry over Mike Chang, I walk out the back door of Brittany's house towards the pool with a drink in hand. I take another sip. I look up from my drink and quickly inhale, seeing Santana in only a wet bikini, stumbling over to me.
"Puckerman, I need a partner for chicken," she frowns, taking my hand and pulling me towards the pool. "Take your shirt off," she rolls her eyes at me. I strip down to my swimsuit and join her in the pool where Finn and Brittany were already waiting. I crouch down and let her climb onto my shoulders as her and Brittany began attempting to knock each other off.
After several rounds, all won by Santana and I, I hear Santana yell before feeling her fall off of my shoulders into the pool, making Brittany cheer. Santana stands up in the water beside me, crossing her arms and frowning at Brittany. She grabs my hand and hurries out of the pool pulling me behind her.
"Chill, you pushed her in like six times," I roll my eyes. She turns around to face me, a small grin creeping across her face as she places her hand on my chest.
"Want to get out of here?" She grins, and I frown at her. "Come on, Puck, you don't really think Erin's actually into you, do you?" She rolls her eyes, as I look down at her hand on my chest and pause.
"Hey," Brittany grins, coming up beside us. "There are towels in the pool house, Puck," she grins before distracting Santana just long enough for me to run over to the large pool house.
I open the door and head over to one of the shelfs before seeing a figure curled up asleep on the wicker couch, snuggling a rolled-up towel. I grin to myself, wrapping a towel around my waist, before taking a seat on the couch beside Erin. I push the hair out of her face, making her gently stir awake. She squints her eyes open, and her face morphs into a soft smile, as she focuses on me.
"Hi, Noah," she giggles, drunkenly. "Did you know Brittany has a pool?" She raises her eyebrows at me in surprise, making me laugh. "I asked her if maybe you could come by and clean it sometime-- you know, because you have a pool cleaning business," she explains. "Look at me go, Noah! I'm like your hot secretary."
"Believe it or not, I actually cleaned it earlier today," I muffle down a grin.
"Damn, I must be, like... a really good secretary," she smiles and adjusts herself so her head would rest on my lap. "Hey, Noah?" She looks up at me.
"Yes, Erin?" I raise my eyebrows at her in amusement.
"I love you," she giggles. I pause and look down at her. Am I drunk? There's no way that just happened. Or maybe she's just drunk? "Say it back," she sits up and furrows her eyebrows at me.
"I love you too," I let out a small laugh, still in shock. She gives me a small smile before resting her hand on my chin and placing a soft kiss on my mouth. She pulls away slightly and locks eyes with me, her face cracking into a small smile as her eyes begin scanning over my face.
"Your eyelashes always look longer when you're sleepy," she giggles, resting her head on my shoulder. I exhale and let my arm fall to her waist to pull her in closer to me. "I love you, Noah," she repeats, placing a small kiss on my shoulder.
