her very presence makes his knees weak. her voice a song in his ears, a rhythm he could listen to for hours. Her hair falls down in soft curls, bouncing and full. Her eyes a soft amber he could look at for hours if given the chance, it's color dancing in the moonlight and playing with his heart.

laurence is so hopelessly, terribly, desperately in love with his lord. he loves her so much it hurts. so much it made his heart ache.

he couldn't get enough of it.

it's funny, how love can change you. Laurence never really thought himself as domestic. he never really pictured a future; his future. he was just a guard, and a life of domesticated bliss was not in his cards.

Yet, when it came to Aphmau, he found himself constantly day-dreaming of a future with her. being able to wake up next to her, to hug her freely, kiss her, to love her. he wanted to be able to cook for her, because of course she'd be tired after a long day of running a village. he wanted to take her on silly excursions through their town, laughing and dancing through the plaza. he wanted to take care of her, to make her understand just how much he loves and cares for her. he wanted-

"...Laurence? can you stop zoning out and listen?"

Garroths voice shook him out of his thoughts, a vivid blush rising to his face as he realized he'd been staring at Aphmau from across the market instead of listening to Garroth's instructions for today's patrols.  he smiled sheepishly at Garroth, leaning heavily on the hilt of his sword. "Sorry. wont happen again i swear!"

Garroth rose a single brow, "You said that yesterday too, yet here we are." he glanced behind him, grinning playfully when he realized who he'd been staring at. "ah, i see now."

laurence's blush returned 10 fold, whipping around to make sure no one was listening before facing Garroth again, "Dude! not so loud! she might hear you."

Garroth laughed heartily, "oh please, Lady Aphmau's on the other side of the plaza. there's no way she could hear us." his grin turned evil. "so. how's that proposal coming along?"

laurence shoved him harshly, pouting at Garroth's laughter, "oh shut up. you know i could never even think of doing that yet."

the blonde haired man gave him a sympathetic look, "i hate to break it to you, but Lady Aphmau won't always stay single. it's obvious you at least like her, so you need to hurry up and ask her out before someone beats you to it." he straightened up, "now, back on today's schedule."

Laurence gave a nod, his mind only halfway in the present. ask her out? despite how he desperately wished he could, it's obvious she doesn't truly reciprocate his feelings. sure, they play around and flirt a little, but actually love him back? it wasn't meant to be.

after all, she was the sun. bright and good and warm. he, however, was the earth. reliant on her and destined to forever rotate around her, spinning on an axis that would forever keep him at arms length. he would never truly be close to her, just close enough to bask in her presence.

he ended up taking watch outside the plaza. laurnence isn't quite sure if Garroth did that on purpose, so he'd get to watch Lady Aphmau commune with the townspeople, but he's thankful and annoyed none the less.

thankful, because she never failed to make him happy. even though he hadn't talked to her this morning, just being in her space gave him a pep in his step and made his blood burn in a way that both hurt and excited him.

annoyed, because he kept getting distracted.

he constantly had to remind himself to keep watching the outer skirts of the plaza. to keep checking on the people and making sure everything was in order. instead he found himself staring again, drawn to her.

'well,' he thought idly, observing as she helped Logan lift a crate onto his merchant booth. 'i guess watching her IS half my job.'

"Oh! Laurence! i didn't see you there! how are you today?" speak of the devil and she shall appear it seemed.

Laurence grinned as Lady Aphmau came bouncing over to him, a wide smile on her face and her hair astray. he thought she looked beautiful under the suns rays, her brown skin glowing. "And a good morning to you too, Lady Aphmau." he smirked, "i'm doing good! how are you, woman of my dreams?"

it was easy to fall into the banter they shared, his lord raising a single eyebrow and popping a hip, on hand coming down to rest on it sassily. "I'd be a lot better if you stopped being such a Casanova and helped me move these crates."

Laurence grinned, "i bet i can move more crates than you can."

"oh you're so on." as her laughter filled his heart and they took off for the crates, Laurence felt like he could fly.

"so," Aphmau began, picking up the final crate and moving it towards Logan's stand. "When are you off guard duty today?"

laurence grinned, "a guard is never truly off duty, you should know this," he brought a hand towards his forehead, dramatically leaning in her direction. she giggled and pushed him slightly. "Me and Dante rotate shifts in about a half hour. then i'm on break for roughly two hours. is there a specific reason you wanted to know?"

Aphmau paused, a light blush over taking her face. "oh! well, i was hoping, since we haven't done anything together in a while, you'd want to keep me company while i walk around and help?" Laurence blinked, and her eyes widened slightly as her blush deepened, her hands gesturing wildly, "you don't have to, of course! i just thought it would be nice to hang out cause we haven't gone on any trips in a while and i kinda miss you? it's silly. like i said if you have other things you need to do you don't have-"

it took a minute for her words to register, but when they did, he shook his head and grabbed her flailing hands, "i would love to accompany you today, aphmau."

her blush, which had already deepened to a bright red, got impossibly darker. she cleared her throat and looked around. "i'm.. I'm glad!" she looked shyly at him, "well, i promised to help Brendon fix up the docks again, so i'll meet you down there when you're off shift, if that's okay with you?"

Laurences own blush made an appearance
, the prospect of being able to spend the rest of his day with his lady making his heart race. "of course! i'll meet you down there aph'."

she beamed up at him, waving goodbye as she raced off to her house, probably going to retrieve materials. he sighed as he watched her go. he was absolutely hopeless.

Dale, who was helping Molly from across the Plaza, smirked over at him, watching his love sick expression. "You do realize there are better places to ask her on a date, right?"

Laurence whipped around, suddenly aware of some of his friends who had been watching the interaction in amusement. he glared at dale playfully, "oh get back to work Old man!"

Dale laughed and went back to helping Molly, leaving him to anxiously wait for the end of his shift.
