Dear Diary August 1st, 2001
I am Hermione Granger. I am 11 years old. Today is the day I attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I received my letter 1 month ago. Of course I said yes! My parents are dentists and I was home alone when I got my letter. I waited for my parents to come home and then I asked them if they knew who this was from. They didn't know so they read the letter with me and decided if I was going. We had to do research on where to get all the stuff we need! We knew we couldn't find any of this in London. A boy named Neville came up to me while we were on the train and asked if he had seen a toad he lost his. I said no, but I decided to help him out. I'm heading outside right now to go ask if anyone has seen one. I've been practicing a lot of spells on my free time. Before leaving I had to do just one more bit of research and I came across this one boy named Harry Potter! He had glasses and a strange looking scar that looked like a lightning bolt. I wanted to learn how he got that scar. A scar on Harry Potter's forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt was the result of a failed murder attempt by Lord Voldemort on 31 October 1981, when he struck 15-month-old Harry with the Killing Curse. I was shocked at that but I was even more shocked that he was 11 years old just like me and he would be attending Hogwarts at the same time as me!
