"Long time no see Avery."
Gasping I jolt awake, choking for air to return to my lungs. My vision blurs but I can see enough to know I'm not in the field on Bardo. Frantically I snap my gaze around the room trying to focus. Shaking away the haze my heart palpitates hard against my chest seeing four deep blue walls surrounding me. Clean. Clinical. Jolting from the bed I'm laid in I paw at my chest. I was shot. I was shot. I was shot.
But nothing.
I don't feel any semblance of a wound, even evidence of a tiny surface graze.
Shaidheda... he shot me.
Raising my hands my gaze trails down my arms. Pressed into my veins are IV's of numerous colors. Ranging in thicknesses my eyes assess the colors. A few clear and others containing... something else. Panic and fear settling in I harshly yank the IV's out with a sharp hiss. I don't understand. I'd died. I'd felt myself die. Why am I not dead? Discarding the covers from the stiff bed my eyes widen at the sight of dark navy yoga pants. Looking to my torso I find myself in a navy blue matching singlet. On the corner a logo that chills my bones. A golden atom logo with the title underneath; Eligius Corporation.
My head spinning I stare long and hard trying to get a firm grip on what is happening. Why the hell am I dressed in Eligius Clothes? Tearing my shirt up I search for the wound again. Nothing. No scar or hole.
Suddenly the door to this room opens with a hiss, incoming an older man dressed in a lab coat alongside two nurses. Looking at the young man and woman up and down I remain frozen on the edge of my bed, watching the trio inching inside cautious. Clipboard in hand, the older man calmly warns "Please lay back Dr Avery Armelle. You've been through quite the ordeal."
Dr?
When the nurse advances I act on instinct alone. Grabbing the IV stand I grasp the cool metal and swing it right over the younger nurse's head. The younger man reaching to restrain me over the bed I'd been laid out in, I twirl the IV around and slam the blunt end into his head. His unconscious body landing with a thump. Finally turning my steely gaze to settle on the last lab coat. Judging from how he's fearfully shaking with his clipboard I understand he's not going to attack me. My bare feet padding across the room I slip silently past the doctor and discard my IV stand with a abrasive clash.
