The Great Survival War

Chapter 1 A New Journey Begins

On board the colony ship Clinton a young teen adult named Rusty has spent most of his life in the streets surviving with no friends and doesn't know where his parents are the only clue that remains on him is the amulet with strange symbols on them. One day he decides to go out and try to steal some food from the local markets he manages to take some but some of the pilots that protect the ship notice what he is doing and try to stop him, but he manages to give them the slip and get back to his home but one of the female pilots manages to follow him without him noticing. When he gets to his home Rusty then notices her and goes on the defense. After a fierce fight rusty tries to flee but is stunned by one of the other pilots. 

Niro- Good job lieutenant. lieutenant- Thank you sir where will you be taking him to. Niro- He will be taken to the detention facility at the base. Lieutenant- understood. As the lieutenant watched Rusty, she notices the necklace around him and starts to wonder. Hours later Rusty wakes up in a cell and starts to look around and notices the lieutenant holding his necklace and makes him upset. Rusty- Give that back. The lieutenant looks up at him and asks where did you get this? Rusty- My parents gave it to me. The Lieutenant then gives the necklace back and says My name is Crystal I'm lieutenant of the defense fleet squadron Osiris and we may have a proposition for you if you want it. Rusty- What kind of proposition? Crystal- We looked at your records and have noticed that you have an excellent score in flight simulator training. Rusty looks up confused- what records I did have flight simulator training but that was a long time when my parents were he then pauses. Crystal- your parents. 

Rusty- My parents disappeared a long time a go when I was young, and I have been on my own ever since then. He then looks at her and says all except your offer on one condition. Crystal- What is it? Rusty- I want access to all my parent's info and what they where doing. Crystal- All see what I can do. Crystal then leaves the brig and heads towards the admirals' quarters. Upon entering she sees Niro talking with the admiral and other female pilots. Niro- So what did our inmate say? Crystal-He's willing to take the offer on one condition. Female pilot- What is it? Crystal- He wants access to his parent's info and what they were doing. Niro- Out of the question he shouldn't have any access or be allowed to join he's a street rate. Admiral- That's enough Niro your dismissed. Niro and the rest of the pilots all leave except for crystal. The top admiral then gets up and looks out toward the immigration fleet and the diminished military fleet and says tell him he can have access, but he won't like what he sees. The next day rusty is brought to his own quarters by one of the dorm mothers. My name is Kida I'm the dorm mother for new pilots. Rusty- It is a pleasure to meet you. 

He then enters and looks around. Kida- You ok? Rusty- I'm ok it just feels nice to have a better home. Kida then walks over, gives him a hug and says you will always have a home here. Rusty- Thank you mam. As soon as she leaves rusty unpacks his stuff and when he sits down, he hears a snoring sound on the top bunk when he climbs up and notices almost naked girl and gets punched in the face. In pain he yells what the flippedy flap flap what was that for. Girl- That was for trying to peep on me. Rusty- I wasn't trying to peep on you I was seeing who was up there. Girl- Sorry about that then I'm Rena nice to meet you. The loudspeaker then on (all new pilots are to report to the virtual training hall immediately). Immediately nagate and the rest of the cadet's head towards the training sims. They soon stand in formation and upon arrival they see Osiris squadron and a familiar face. Rusty- Lieutenant 

Crystal its good to see you again. Crystal- Its good you see you to. Niro- Everybody keep quiet and listen well are here to turn you into the best of the best for this fleet and if you don't feel like your up to the task the door is right over there. The cadets look at one another and nobody moves. Niro- Good now who would like to be first in the simulations. Rusty then raises his hand. Niro says good but with a smirk. He gets in the sim and start to fly. He manages to pass the first 2 sims but as soon as the 3rd simulation starts, he starts to see a vision of himself on a snowy planet walking to something and see someone's walking with him but he cant see who it is. Then once he gets out of his trans and notices he's still in the sim he manages to pass the test. Once out all the cadets congratulate him. Rusty stands with a smile to try to hide what happened in the sim but izana notices something isn't right and tries to talk to him, but Niro jumps in. Niro-Good job cadet but with flying like that you'll be never be top if you want to join Osiris squad. In rusty mind he didn't really care to be top in class he kept thinking about finding his parents and the vision he had. 

Eventually after everyone finishes the sims and everyone is excused rusty heads back to his dorm to access his parent's files but as soon as he dos he sees that most of the files are encrypted and that upsets. Rusty yells Dam it mom and dad why did you have to be so secretive on what you were doing. While yelling Rena enters the dorm and asks everything all right? Rusty- Everything Is fine just dealing with some stuff. They then hear a knock on the door and see izana enter the dorm. Crystal- Rusty I need to talk with you privately. Once Rena leaves and their alone crystal asks him about his necklace. Rusty tells her his parents gave it to him right before they disappeared and has been on his own ever since but that changed when you saved me. Crystal with a smile says Your welcome rusty. Come with me I want to show you something. 

Crystal takes him through a section of narrow Quora doors to show him the hanger. Rusty is amazed by the aircraft that are parked in the hanger then sees a view of the fleet. Through the window he notices that there aren't that many military vessels out. He asks how come there aren't that many military vessels out there. Crystal- We don't have any mobile shipyards or ports to build anymore ships. The only thing we can do is just repair the military vessels we have left to help protect the colony fleet but eventually supplies will run out soon eventually and we can't risk bringing the fleet to our allies for refuge not with the berserkers still out there. Afterwards they start to walk towards the exit when rusty sees quick memory flash of a planet before he could react, he trips over a piece of pipe. Crystal manages to catch his hand, but it wasn't fast enough, and she fell on him. They then look at each other both eyes locked and both blushing at each other. Niro- What the hell is going on here. As he walks in both rusty and crystal stand at attention. 

Rusty- Sorry sir I wasn't paying attention and tripped over. Niro- I don't care what happened what I want to know is why you're here street rat. Nagate getting angry says My name is Rusty and what's your problem? Niro – My problem is a street rat like you shouldn't be here. And news flash you're probably not going to find anything on your parents because their pro0blably dead. Niro then get punched in face by rusty and then rusty yells you take that back. They then start to fight but its dos does not last long as the security guards come including the admiral come in to break them up. Admiral- That's enough Niro I saw the whole thing. 

Niro- But Sir. Admiral- No buts unless you want to be sent to the brig, I suggest you not do that again. Niro with angry face says yes sir and leaves the flight deck. The admiral then goes to rusty and helps him up. Admiral- I am terribly sorry about that Niro isn't normally like that. You must be the new cadet I'm Admiral Fletcher. Rusty- Nice to meet you sir my name is rusty. I was recruited recently to help defend the fleet. Admiral- But that's not the reason why  you joined. Rusty- No sir the real reason why I joined is so I can find my parents they disappeared a long time ago. Admiral- I know son they were close friends of mine to I wish I could have done more to help them but they were too secretive on what they were doing. Rusty- Thank you sir it means a lot. All of a sudden, the alarms start to go. Speaker- (Attention we have a berserker fleet inbound all pilots report to battle stations). All the pilots head towards their fighters and prepare to launch. As rusty watches the admiral tells him to get to safety for now and while rusty looks for a safe place, he looks out the window and sees the berserker ships attacking the defense fleet. While looking at the battle he starts to see visions of a snowy planet again but then sees a buried structure within the planet but still couldn't make out who was with him. He then was awoken to Rena yelling at him. 

Rena- Rusty are you ok? Rusty- I'm fine just passed out for some reason. While holding rustys hand she says come on we need to get to safety. They go through a series of hallways to get to shelter but rusty still wanted to see how the defense fleet was doing. While Rena was look at how to get to the shelter Rusty looks out the window and sees the defense fleet is holding but is taking heavy damage, he then sees Osiris squad fly by and sees crystals plane fly over with an insignia of a dragon on it. Rusty- Rena look its Osiris squadron. Rena comes over and is amazed on how well Osiris squadron is they managed to take down all the heavy hitters before they could reach their target. The colony fleet manages to jump away with the exception of a few fighters that didn't make it back. The fleets jumps near a gas giant type planet to hide the fleet from the berserkers but the high ranking admirals fear that will not last long here.
