It had been exactly one month since I had spoken to Oscar or any Diaz for that matter. It hurt so much in the beginning, but Rio really helped with easing the pain. Rio and I had become so close in the last month. He was probably at my house more than I was. He would come to help my mom with chores around the house and even grocery shopping. Even when I was at work. He said he just wanted to be helpful. I appreciated everything that he was doing.

I rolled over in my bed as the sun hit my eyes. Stretching and sitting up to get ready for the day. It had been one month. And I promised that Rio that I would eventually try to be cordial with his sister. No matter how much it hurt to think of her and Oscar together, I figured that if I truly want to be over Oscar, then I need that type of closure. To be able to see him and Minnie together and not want to cry my eyes out would mean that I was truly over him.

There were a few knocks on my door. "Come in!" My mom opened my door and smiled at me. I looked back at her and smiled, "What?" She shook her head, still smiling. "You just look happy mija. You haven't looked genuinely happy in a long time." I smiled, "I am, I really am." She tossed a towel at me, "Now get up sleepy head, Rio is here already." I smiled and jumped out of bed. "Tell him I'll be there in a minute." She nodded and walked away, closing the door behind her.

I took a deep breath and got out of my bed, walking into my bathroom. I looked into the mirror and washed my face, before brushing my teeth. A few more deep breaths and I think I've convinced myself that I'll make it through the day.

Today.

Today, today makes it exactly seven days since we were invited to Oscar's birthday cookout at his house. Minnie had invited Rio and insisted that Rio bring me. She said that Oscar no longer had any bad feelings towards either me or Rio. And as much as I begged Rio, he insisted that I come with him.

The cookout is scheduled to start around noon.

I quickly took a shower and dried off. Getting dressed in a simple t-shirt dress and vans. I put on some lotion and brushed my hair. Since it actually wanted to cooperate today, I decided to wear it down. There were a few more knocks on my door. "Come in!"

Rio opened the door. "Hey mamita! How are you doing today?" I pouted at him, "I was doing great until I remembered you were dragging me into hell today." He laughed a little and sat on my bed next to me. "Well, just remember, I'm going to hell with you." I rolled my eyes, "Is that supposed to make me feel better?" He nodded, "It didn't?" I shook my head, "Nope." "Not even a little bit?"

I stood up and turned around. "How do I look?" He took in my look and smiled, "Just as beautiful as you look every other day." "Rio, you're always doing that." "Doing what?" "Complimenting me." "What's wrong with that?" I grabbed his hand and pulled him up, "Just come on, let's get this over with." He smiled and followed behind me.

"Bye ma, we'll be back in like five minutes."

Rio laughed as we walked out of the door and headed across the street.
