Once upon a time, on the miraculous heap of rock now called Earth, there were newly evolved primitive human-like creatures. They cared only about food and mating, but a special group of these humans cared about more. They wanted to learn about the world around them. These special humans evolved separately from the rest. Their unique brain wiring,a product of genetic mutations, allowed them powers of telekinesis, telepathy, and shape-shifting (although they are shapeshifters, they can tell who is who because each individual has a unique set of birthmarks that make an image, like constellations). They are now called Nova. Their powers are not limitless, using powers takes energy and the powers are especially strong when an individual feels a powerful emotion. A Nova can be using powers without noticing, like a typical human might not notice himself or herself clicking a pen. For millennia ,Nova lived openly among regular humans. Until humans developed a hatred of everything different from them. When witch hunts began, Nova were forced into hiding, along with people that had genetic disorders. The Nova and their allies fled to an island on the border between the Atlantic and the Pacific. The island was called Celestia by the natives. They paid the native tribe for use of the land and protected the island with a selectively permeable forcefield. Eventually the native people and the Nova began to live together. Now Celestia builds technology decades ahead of everywhere else. The Nova that didn't live in Celestia became angry. They developed powers of destruction instead of creation and made a kingdom called Warrarcia (we'll call these people Warrarcians to avoid confusion). Warrarcia went through a series of wars with the non-Nova countries, constantly expanding their empire. Until there were only three countries left in the world. Warriarcia, the human kingdom of Decica, and Celestia.
