It had almost been two months since Klaus had kidnapped Elena and fled to New Orleans. He was now halfway through building himself an army of hybrids.

The Salvatore brothers had followed him. And now they walked around the outskirts of the city, searching desperately for an advantage.  Their main course of action was to look for the lost Mikaelson siblings, while also trying to make allies in the city. Which was not even difficult, considering how Klaus ruled the humans and supernatural beings with an iron fist. Many unsatisfied vampires and hybrids changed sides along the way. But the two brother knew they did not stood a chance against Klaus without at least one Original by their side.

Stefan had learned about the other coffins by ears dropping during his time with Klaus. Still, he had barely escaped before Klaus realized he was on vervain and could not save Elena.

All of Elena's friends and family were hellbent on saving her from Klaus. Though, their efforts seemed helpless. Until Bonnie located one of the coffins. They all agreed that any Original sibling would probably want to help take down Klaus since he kept them in boxes for centuries. Still, they would have picked Elijah if they could. But that did not seem to be an option. And they were desperate enough to take whatever they got.

When they found the first coffin and opened it, the two brothers did not even debate whether or not they should free the young man inside of it. They simply pulled out the dagger and hoped for the best.

They should have known better.

Kol jumped out of the coffin and bashed both brothers against the walls of the abandoned basement.

"Where am I?" Kol blurted out as he pinned both Damon and Stefan to the wall. "What century is it?" he asked as he glanced at their strange clothes.

"New Orleans. It's the twenty-first century." Stefan replied mechanically, trying to calm him down.

"Did my brothers send you?"

"Not really." Damon replied, trying to get free.

Kol scoffed. "What do you want then?"

"Your help to take down that shitty bastard brother of yours." Damon continued. "So, what do you say, man? Wanna help us throw him in one of those?"

A hint of a smile played on Kol's lips. He wanted to see his brother locked in a coffin for as long as he had been. But, as Kol studied the posture of the two men in front of him; he knew they were in a meaningless crusade. They both wanted something other than simple revenge against Klaus. And, yes, revenge was always a dangerously sweet game to play—especially against Nik. Yet, for as delicious as it was to imagine making his brother suffer, Kol knew he rarely won such games. Besides him, Kol Mikaelson, playing The Savior to some deadbeat vampires? No. It would be ridiculous, not to mention suicidal.

Kol let go of the Salvatores' before breaking their necks. He stripped them of their clothes and tried them out, grabbing their wallets as he ran out of the basement.

And so he ran and ran. Like a lighting bolt desperate to kiss the surface of the earth.

Now, he could be free again. It was a mistake rejoining his siblings all those years ago. A mistake he did not intend to make twice. He did not care if his father found him. He would rather take his chances with Mikael than spend another day afraid of Klaus and ignored by the rest of them. And maybe, after all  those years.... perhaps Mikael had once again became the father he was when they were young.... perhaps life had made his father soft again.... It was foolish to hope for such a thing, Kol knew it. But, maybe, if Kol rejected Niklaus, Mikael would show him the love his siblings had neglected him....

Still, Kol knew renouncing his bastard brother was no simple thing. No matter how much hate Kol held in his heart for Klaus, they were brothers after all....
