"I don't know about this. You know I'd rather stay at home, Linh," Tam complained from his bed, watching as Linh rifled through his closet for something to wear to Homecoming. Once Marella'd asked her, Linh begged her brother to come just in case something went wrong. Plus it was their last chance to go to a school's Homecoming."I know you'd rather stay home, but I won't let you. I need you there in case anything bad happens, not that I think it will, but also it's our last chance for a high school Homecoming. Hey, what about this?" She pulled out a pair of black pants from deep within his closet that looked nice, and a white collared shirt. She held them up next to each other, and Tam just glared.
"Don't you glare at me, asshole. Try this on while I go and change into my dress. When you come back I expect this," She held the outfit up, "to be on your body."
"Yes mom," Tam said in a teasing tone, taking the outfit from Linh. She flipped him off before walking out of the room, leaving Tam to get himself ready.
*imagine these are nice pants instead of sweats and a white shirt not black*
Once she left Tam's room, Linh went into her own bedroom to get ready. She changed into the dress, one she'd spent a long time shopping for after school the day before.
It was navy blue with thin straps, the top dipping a bit low for a school dance but Linh didn't really care. The skirt was short, with a ruffled end to it and a thin piece of fabric around the middle tied in a bow. It showed off her figure perfectly, and she couldn't wait to see Marella's reaction to the dress.
After getting dressed she grabbed her makeup bag and brought it to the next room so that she could get ready in Tam's room and also make sure that he didn't chicken out of going with her. "Can I come in?" Linh asked, knocking on the door.
"Yes." She opened it and squealed when she saw her brother. He'd pulled out a tan trenchcoat that Linh didn't know he owned, and she had to admit that it looked good with the things she'd picked out. "What're you squealing for? I don't need my eardrums broken." Tam rubbed the sides of his head, overexaggerating as Linh ignored him and plopped down on the floor in front of his closet, which had a mirror on it, and started pulling makeup out of her bag.
"You look nice. So, hoping for anyone particular to show up?" she asked, dotting some concealer under her eyes before blending it out.
"No," Tam mumbled, and Linh knew he was lying when she glanced at him through the mirror and saw that he was sitting with his lips pressed together as he waited for her response. That was one of his biggest tells for when he was lying, and Linh knew it like the back of her hand.
"Liar." She called him out as she put a deep purple eyeshadow that bordered a blue color in her crease.
"I'm not," he mumbled again. Linh rolled her eyes before putting a silvery eyeshadow on her lid that brought out the silver in her pale blue eyes.
"Yes, you are. I bet you're hoping Keefe'll show up, huh?"
"Maybe." The look in Tam's eyes as he said that made Linh squeal again. She'd seen them interacting more than they ever had before at the party a couple of weeks ago, and she wanted to know what was going to happen between them.
"I knew it! God, I hope you guys date."
"Can you shut up? Don't you have to go meet up with your girlfriend at the cafe?" Linh checked her phone and gasped when she looked at the time.
"Oh, shit. I do. Now, you're going to the dance, and I'll meet you there, okay?" She stood up and waved goodbye to Tam as she placed her makeup bag in her room, grabbed a purse, and ran out of the house to her car.
When she arrived at the cafe she saw Marella in the car with her mom, wearing a red jacket. Her heart leaped into her throat as Marella got out of the car in a red pantsuit. Marella turned and saw Linh staring, winking as she did. Oh, she knew what she did to Linh, and she did it well.
