Winter came. I'm standing at the balcony watching snowflakes slide through the vines that are wrapped around the balustrade. Mother and father have been gone for months now. I'd think they didn't know what happened to Cynder and I. If they did, I doubt they believed it. A sudden rush of chilly air passed by, that made me clutch my shoal tighter. I emptied the glass of hot cocoa in my hand. The forest is grey and dark. I'm officially friendless like what why hostile cousin use to tell me.

"I'll get another cup of cocoa myself" I said to no one in particular.

I look down on my hand and saw pink patches on it. I pulled up my dress' sleeves it was everywhere. Must be the weather. I pulled it down and rushed towards the kitchen. I'd just stay by the fireplace for warmth. Meters away from the kitchen door, I heard voices talking.

"Mother but what if it's contagious?" More of a whisper.

"Then wouldn't be working right now Benjamin. Bring that and go back to your room and study for once!"

moment.

"Why hello Benjamin!" I greeted.

He was holding a tray of pastries. His eyes shocked and took a minute to recover.

"Can I have some?" I pointed at the pastries.

"Hi, sure, uh-ehem-help yourself." He said giving the full tray to me.

"It would be great if you'd join me for hot cocoa. I could help you study. Right Letizia?" I looked at Letizia for her permission.

She smiled sweetly and nodded. "That would be great love. Seeing you're out of your room and stop bawling your eyes."

"Good. Grab your things Benjamin and we'll go by the fireplace." I said a little too excited for company of my age.

Maybe, I can't bear the lonely feelings for so long that I crave of someone's companionship to the point that I'm slightly forcing people to go with me just so I can feel less lonely.

"Benjamin, you're in my grade, right?"

"Yes." He said meekly. Such a shy boy.

"Well, that symbol shouldn't be above the equation, it should be beside it."

He accidentally scratched his nose with his pencil leaving dark drawings causing me to laugh it his ridiculousness. He joined along after realizing what has happened.

Scrunch. Scrunch. Our boots against the snow breaking the comfortable silence. I have resorted to hanging out with Benjamin during the break. I help him with his studies and I get to have a friend. A win-win.

"How come I've never really talked to you before?" I started.

"I was afraid." he answered above whisper.

"Of me?" I said incredulously.

"Oh no, you're perfect- I mean -fine. Uh I was afraid you would ignore me." Flailing his arms around as he answers.

"Benjamin has anyone told you you're adorable?" I smiled brightly at him that made him blush.

"My mother I guess." He replied which only made him blush further as though warming itself against the chilly air blowing through his curly hair.

"Well you really are." He blushed a deeper red.

"Come along, let's sit there."

"You mean by those two swings? They might be frozen or probably frozen."

"You have you coat on, don't you?" He sighs and walked toward the swings. I immediately grabbed my journal from its hiding place and wrote a commemoration.

On this second week of winter on my 17th winter I made friends with Benjamin Walter.

"What are you doing? Writing on a secret notebook hidden inside a tree trunk filled with fantasies of boys?" He teased.

"It's a journal Benjamin." I handed it to him. "Here, write something and sign it so we'll never forget."

"Do you do this often? Letting people sign your journal?"

"Not really. The last person to write on that journal and to sit on that swing was already gone."

"You mean dead?" Suddenly freaked out, Benjamin stood abruptly making the swing dance with the icy air.

"Oh, sit down Benjamin! What I mean is I am not acquainted anymore with her that's all." I informed with a chuckled

"Oh. Her." He nodded and started writing.

I am Benjamin Walter I was right beside Adellyne on this second week of winter in her 17th winter. I wish to never leave for I will never forget.

"Goodness me! You kids step inside, it's freezing out there." Letizia said in a high-pitched voice.

"But-"

"Come along now. No excuses. Go sit by the fireplace."

I quickly chucked my journal into its hiding place and followed Letizia with Benjamin tagging along. Benjamin was a kind lad and a funny one too. I think I had worn a smile 'till I slept that night.
