The Guardian's Tale (AOT fanfiction)

-So We Meet Again-

I froze and let my arm hang in mid air between us, just as I felt my fingers brush against fabric. I couldn't do it...I couldn't expect him to forgive me after what I did 4 years ago. I reeled my arm back and slowly took off the bandages around my eyes and when my sight finally returned, I took a few steps back. He was there...standing in front of me was the man I'd been yearning to see again, only...he was thinner and taller.

I placed my hand over my mouth as tears slowly rolled down my cheeks. He was there...it was really him. I could feel my heart beat in my throat as he slowly walked closer to me. Surprised and scared, I freed my second arm from its brace and put it our in front of me to stop his advance. Just as I was about to open my mouth to tell him to stop where he was, his arms wrapped around me in a tight, loving embrace.

"Yuki...has it really been that long...that you're scared of me ?" He asked in a deep whisper-like voice. "You're just as small as I remember...but you're thinner."

"I...." I stood there, my arms hanging loosely by my sides. "Reiner..." 

Something suddenly caught my eye, something shining on his shirt. When I looked closer, more warm tears stream down my cheeks. No way...he still had it...after all I did...after all this time. I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face under his chest. His embrace felt so nostalgic and warm, like I couldn't be harmed by anything or anyone.

"Reiner....I'm so sorry..." I cried, clenching my hands tighter on his back. "Please I...I can't ask you to forgive me but I just..."

"I know my love..." His lips locked with mine in a soft yet passionate kiss. "It's gonna be alright now...you don't have to cry anymore...not for me."

"I missed you..." I buried my face deeper onto his body. "I missed you so much...you idiot...you scared me...I thought...that I'd lost you forever. I...I..." I gulped down the ball forming in my throat and looked up at him, a small smile on my face. "I love you...Reiner."

"Y-Yuki..." He blushed as he lifted his arm up, placing his hand on my cheek before wiping my tears away. "I love you too."

I gently placed my hand on his and buried my face in it. There it was, the warmth I'd been yearning for, the feeling I'd been waiting for in the past 4 years. Then, Reiner did something I didn't expect, he picked up my left hand and kissed my ring.

"I think it's time I own up to that promise I made you..." He slightly crouched and placed his forehead on mine. "You have no idea...how much I've dreamed of this moment."

As I was about to open my mouth to speak, I caught Falco's expression from the corner of my eye and I froze. On his face, betrayal, shock and fear were clearly painted as if he had become a transparent book. My eyes widened when I realized that he knew what Titan Shifter marks looked like and I quickly buried my face under Reiner's chest. 

"I should've kept quiet." I thought. "Now he's gonna know Reiner's involved with someone from Paradise...and a shifter no less."

"Well isn't this sweet." Eren coldly spoke up.
