Technology-a modern development used for practical purposes. what stands out to me in a definition like that is the word practical. what i dont understand is whether technology for personal use is practical or not. Modern day society takes technology to another level, an obsessive level, that creates a compulsive side to humans who use it too much to their advantage. Take iphones as a consideration, i admit it is amazing technology that takes incredible brilliance to create. But, is it keeping people from facing reality as it is?
I notice now days how most teenagers connect to eachother, its quite fascinating how the phone is shaping people. They still talk but its over something on the phone. They still laugh but its what's over something on the phone. They discuss their problems, but its what happened on the phone. Take out the phone and what do we have? Only new experiences and memories made with or on the phone. I believe its a disease alot of people dont realize they have. Its an obsessive compulsion order where us as humans have to be checking our emails, instagrams, facebooks, etc.. a disorder that forces you to be on it, saying you cant miss out, you have to look at what others are doing. It seems as though your apart from society, ripped from something thats not real, but something that could be real. With one action that could cause society to interact, but would tear them into shreads. Take away the phone. I think we could live the way god created us to live -to love one another in reality. What reality is now is the need to have a distraction from real connections, but online connections which comes across as easier- so humans dont have to face uncomfortable situations face to face, but face to online. It seems like the inverse of reality. What I call it online-ity.
I do advocate iphones in a practical way. What i mean by that is using them to make plans, or for emergency purposes, or to simply ask how someones doing. I dont advocate it for social media purposes if its used in a way most people use it. The product of using it also causes and has caused people to feel bad about themselves. Hence cyberbullying which has caused countless numbers of death and depression.
Aside from cyberbullying and back to online-ity, Its stopping even small kids from being a small kid. In my opinion, i think children should have a child experience: playing outside, playing legos or barbies with they're parents or friends. The invention of technology has transformed that experience into a childhood experience of online individual computer games. The thing is the computer game isnt a experience. Its a pretty lame childhood compared to being outside with the neighborhood when there's an opportunity. I watch so many children fall under the same mindset teenagers and adults have a craving for and are addicted to. Believe me when i say this, to get out of that mindset takes incredible tenacity. Its something I still have a hard time with and dont know if or when it will be over come.
Keep in mind im not trying to change any parenting skills or trying to change you the reader as a phone-less human, its all my opinion. I dont think trying to change anyone is a solution to any problem.
