Two days after completing all of the Thieves Guild quests, you went to start the Companions quests. Going to Jorvaskrr in Whiterun, you entered the building to come across a dark elf and a human in a fistfight. They're NPC's so you cheered them on, catching the attention of Skjor and Farkas. Once the fight ended, you approached Farkas to start the quests.

"I would like to join the companions." You said casually while Lisbeth, who is uncomfortable in this place because of all the drunken players and NPC's, is holding onto you with a feeling of unease.

"You'll have to talk to Skjor about that. He's in charge here. He's downstairs if you need to talk to him." He replied casually.

"Hey! Are you up for a drink?" A player asked you casually.

"I'll pass for now. Thanks. I just need to get some things done." You replied nonchalantly.

"Come on, just one drink? On me." He asks again...

"Alright then. One drink." You replied, causing Lisbeth to look at you with concern.

"You don't have to do this." She replies sternly.

"If they're part of the Companions and the Stormcloaks, then they would be good allies to have. May as well make a few friends down the road." You said with nonchalance.

Two hours later:

"Alright, this was fun, boys and girls, but I've really got to get going." You said light-heartedly as the ale starts to kick in.

"Ah, alright then, it was fun!" The players said happily, their faces flustered from the side effects of the alcohol.

"Right, next time's on me!" You said, downing your last ale before heading downstairs with Lisbeth.

"What is up with you men? I don't understand it at all." She said seriously.

"What about us men?" You asked bashfully.

"How can you drink that stuff like water, never mind bond over that stuff?" She replies sarcastically.

"It's the same as women bonding over nails, or shopping. Just, men have a special bond that can't be broken by mere things. A glass of ale or something makes friendships better. It's just how it works." You said with pride, coming across Skjor, who is talking to Farkas.

"Sorry to interrupt. I'm here to join the companions." You said confidently.

"Me too." Lisbeth replied sternly.

"A mighty young lad and a fine girl? You definitely have the courage, but are you willing to give up your life towards adventure and finding the fragments of Wuuthrad?" He asked seriously.

"There's nothing more I want." You replied confidently, receiving a confused look from Lisbeth.

"You look confused, girlie." Farkas said seriously.

"What is Wuuthrad? I've never heard of that." She replied seriously.

"You want her to join, yet she doesn't even know the story." Farkas said to Skjor.

"It's fine, Farkas." He starts, turning to Lisbeth. "The fragments of Wuuthrad are actually fragments of an axe which was used in battle by the founder of the Companions, Ysgramor. The fragments of his axe are something that we've been looking for, as it is a treasured artifact to us." He finishes what he has to say.

"I'm up for some adventure. Where do we begin?" She says with a calmer tone about herself.

"You can start by testing your skills in combat. Farkas here will be happy to test you." Skjor replies, giving Farkas little choice in the matter.
