Everything went well with Chris and Callie. Chris is a loving father. He cooked Callie's favorite foods, took her to some nice places in Boston, and even gave her a new guitar because she forgot to bring hers in the rush to the airport. Chris also bought her chocolates because he knew they were her favorite dessert and he wanted her to be happy. He wanted their father-daughter relationship to really work out.
A week had passed, and it was now time for Callie to go to Scarlett in New York. It wasn't an emotional or joyful meeting, though Scarlett was happy because she could finally live with her daughter again. Rose couldn't wait to meet her big sister.
Callie didn't know what to do or feel. Scarlett stood in front of her, smiling, while Callie looked down, shy and uneasy. "Hey, hi, nice to meet you again. Where--" Callie was cut off when she felt Scarlett's arms wrap around her petite body.
If Scarlett could savor that moment, she would have, but she stopped when she felt the girl's uneasiness. "Sorry."
"No, it's okay. It's just, I wasn't used to it. That's all."
Scarlett nodded, "So, you good to go, Callie? I'm gonna call you every day if I can. You know what I've told you--" Chris retorted but was cut off.
"Yeah, you're a busy person, Chris. I get it..." Callie then hugged her father and whispered, "I'm gonna miss you, Chris!"
"Me too," he said, planting a kiss on her hair.
As much as Scarlett loved the view, she couldn't stop the growing feeling in her heart. No, she shouldn't be like that because she should be happy, but she felt jealous. How come Chris could easily get close to their daughter?
And her? She couldn't.
She couldn't even start a conversation with her on the phone because the girl seemed to feel uneasy and uncomfortable. But, for the time she used to ask her about her day, school, and hobbies.
The car drive wasn't quiet nor was it slightly awkward because Callie's curiosity was just out of this world. She would ask whatever she wanted.
"How did you guys meet?"
"Meet who?"
Callie rolled her eyes, "Who could it be? Chris Evans, of course."
"We met on the set of our first movie together, *The Perfect Score*..."
Callie nodded, "Cool, I just found out you're left-handed. We're both the same."
Scarlett smiled, "Of course, I'm your mom. You came from me, and that explains it." She said it to tease the girl, but to her surprise, she wasn't annoyed. Instead, she quickly changed the topic.
"And I just found out that you guys! You guys are in joint custody? Like, I'm gonna tear myself in half because you both are sharing me? Damn! That's insane." Callie shook her head in disbelief as Scarlett focused on the road while driving to her house.
"Tearing yourself in half is an exaggerated expression, young lady. And don't say any bad words at my house, especially don't curse when my daughter is around." Scarlett replied in a serious, motherly tone.
