" Riya come downstairs for supper." my dad shouts from the kitchen I'm assuming. "coming baba" I have called my father 'baba' my whole life and to be quite honest there is no meaning behind it I just prefer to stand out in a crowd. I make my way downstairs with my phone in one hand revealing a half typed chapter from Wattpad that I have zero inspiration to finish. I sit at the table and instantly dig in without saying my prayers. As I enjoy my food quietly at the table with my baba I began finishing my story on Wattpad. " no cell phones at the table Riya" My baba says looking up at me. " but ba-" I started. " NO," my baba said sternly. with that, I sat my phone down and stuffed my mouth with a spoon full of sweet corn with butter and a sprinkle of sugar. "so how's school coming along." my dad questioned. " terrible baba I'm failing." I said stuffing my face with some of the chicken on my plate to hide the emotion on my face. "maybe if you weren't on that damn phone writing them what's it called wootpod books?" my father said dropping his fork on the plate. " this will all change because I got you an arranged marriage." my dad added slamming his fist onto the table. "WHAT THE HELL" I shouted running into my room slamming the door as my father yelled, " This is exactly why. you have zero respect for me. Your mother would be ashamed." My mother passed away when I was 11, I am 17 now. My dad finds a way to bring my mother into every situation knowing how sensitive I am about the topic. I began packing my bags to get out of this modern hell I call my home. "Your rides here. leave and never come back." my dad yelled pushing me out of the house with my small Adidas backpack. I never want to come back here. I hopped into the uber slinging my backpack onto the seat and greeting the driver. I didn't even spare a look back at my old home I just want to meet this person already.
