Chapter Eight

My mind had been a jungle of thoughts the whole day, jumping from my past to the Saturday to this morning. Sadly, all of them included Luke.

“So, I told him that if he liked what he saw, then put a ring on it,” This girl in my English class kept talking about some boy or some night and I swear for the life of me, I couldn't even remember her name. I only smiled and nodded in the spaces in between her speech, using the dead time to think about my next social move.

“And you know what he said?! He said that-”

I’ve had some shitty relationships in my past and I didn’t regret one second living the way I did.

“… He kicked the dog soo hard like what the h, right?”

But I was so tired, so, so tired. The little amount of time I’ve been with Luke only made me reminisce better times, of being young and friendly and not giving shit if someone thought I was rude or asked about my life. I just missed being me.

“We just couldn’t throw a body like that to a river-“

But was it worth it? Just giving up and letting Luke in? Even if it was only to have a normal friend, a nice friend, I couldn’t even remember how I was supposed to get to know someone. You just… talk?

This was my last year of high school but, what does that mean? It’s my last year, just let go? Or it’s my last year, just hold on a bit longer?

The extra lunchbox in locker almost weighted on my shoulders, like it was pushing me to make a decision that I would rather not make at all.

“It was the craziest night omg” What-her-name laughed loudly, snapping me out of my thoughts. Is she still talking? Damn. “And then in the morning-“

The bell rang, finishing the class and the long, long, one sided conversation I was having with Tess. I just wanted to call her that, she looked like one.

“Oh my gosh, it was great talking to you, Zelda,” Tess smiled like I just told her the secret to success in life. Talking to me was a great way to put it; the conversation couldn’t include me less entirely.

“Yeah, great,” I picked my stuff and shoved them into my bag, almost running to my locker, before it slipped out of my mouth. “Bye, Tess.”

I just called a girl that spend the last hour talking to me thinking, I dare say, I cared about whatever happened in her life the wrong name. My first instinct was to make a run for it, maybe she would think she heard wrong and that was all. But oh no.

“Bye, Zelda!” She waved back and left before my mind could process what just happened. Holy shit.

I got it right.

---------------------

“Zeldling!” For fucks sake, just shoot me.

I composed myself before turning around to face the voice with a smile, “Casey!” I didn't even saw her at the dumb party, although she was the one dragging me. And I dragged Luke, but that’s irrelevant right now.

She moved her blond her from a side to the other, probably attracting more attention than the amount she already had for using a party outfit for a Tuesday at school. “Did you leave early the other night?” Did I? I know the party was only four days ago, but it felt like an eternity. “I wanted to dance with you!”

“Jeez, Casey, I’m sorry,” I wasn’t sorry and definitely she didn’t look sorry. Casey wasn’t especially good  covering her intentions, I knew very well she only wanted me in the party so I could bring more people to it, it’s the same reason why she let Luke tag along so willingly. “I had a thing happening and-“
