My heart dropped out of my chest. It's been years since I've been able to talk to Connor, and now he suddenly calls me out of the blue? Something doesn't seem right here.
"Connor? Is it really you?"
"Yes!" He sounded like he was near tears, so maybe this really was my oldest brother. "How can I prove it to you? I know you don't believe me, I know you."
I swallowed hard and stood up slowly from the couch. "Are you really this desperate?"
"What? Calliegh? This doesn't sound like you." I knew it was Connor now. There's no way it couldn't be. I stormed outside of the Pavilion's backstage and ran towards a little overhang where the guys' eighteen-wheeler was earlier. It's was gone now, they had packed up in record time.
"You know what, you dipshit?" I snapped.
"Wha-"
"Don't you dare try to interrupt me, ass. You don't even know me anymore."
"Calliegh, you're my baby sister! I've known you since you were freaking born!"
"Yeah, but you sacrificed that over the last four years that you haven't talked to me! What the hell, man?"
"I'm sorry." He finally said after a long period of silence.
"It's too late for sorries."
"It's never too late." He snapped back.
"Okay. Fine. Why are you calling me?"
"Can't we please try to be at agreements? Please? Calliegh, I need your help. Please, I'm sorry, I made a dumb mistake and I hate myself for not being able to talk to you!"
"Why? Why haven't you tried to talk to me? We used to be so close back when I was in high school, and then you and Sadie moved."
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!" It sounded like he was about to cry, and that's when something snapped from inside me and I realized he was trying to fix things.
"Connor... I-I'm so sorry! I shouldn't be acting like this!"
"No, you're right, it was a dick move on my part. I'm so sorry."
"Okay. We're both sorry, let's just leave it there."
"Thank you!"
"Okay, well, what's been happening? Why haven't you called me?"
"Well... That's why I called you..." He paused for a second like he was trying to figure out what to say. "So, first off, the reason why I haven't called you."
"Please, please continue." I said when he didn't.
"Okay, well, Sadie I kinda lost our phones and all our contacts and numbers."
"Damn! That explains why you didn't pick up when I tried to call you! It was some random dude."
"Yeah, that's why. I was going through some really old papers the other day and I saw your number. I thought I'd give it a try and pray that you still had the same number."
"Well, I do! I made sure to keep it."
"I guess that's a good thing, eh?"
"Right? Okay, I'm sorry, please continue."
"Yeah, okay, well... A lot has happened in the last couple years. Please don't kill me."
"Why would I kill you?"
"Because..."
"Well, I will kill you if you don't tell me what the hell you're hiding from me!"
"Sadie and I are married."
