"Hey, remember the Book Biters?"

I nod my head , I loved that band.

"yeah, remember how much they sucked?"

Oh.

she smiles at me.

I grin.

we're sitting on the hood of a car,

who's car, I wouldn't be able to tell you, there's so many people here.

it's a big bonfire in the middle of nowhere, and its night.

people sit around the fire, staring aimlessly.

a couple of people sit on the hood of cars, like us.

sad, indie music plays from someone's radio.

I hold hands with her, we're staring aimlessly at the fire too now.

fire can do that.

we've been here all night, and its been really fun.

but now tired, we all just stare at the fire.

I'm staring at the stars now, and their cold glare makes me warm.

I trace invisible triangles onto my platforms, still holding her hand.

"Hey, are you getting bored?"

she asks me, and I nod slowly,

"I could definitely use a coffee"

I reply, smiling sweetly at her.

"all right, all right I'll get you a coffee, stop begging me with that face"

score.

"Hey Bennett, we're leaving, this one's falling asleep on me"

Bennett looks up, or at least, I'm assuming it's Bennet. I don't really know anyone here.

"Oh, cool, that's cool. do you need a ride?"

there's no way I'm getting into a strangers car.

"nah," she says "I drove here, but thanks"

phew. social situation averted.

she leads me back to the car we were sitting on , oh ,I guess it was hers, it's really dark.

we get in and she starts the car as I kick the shoes off, it's gonna be a long drive and my feet can't take it anymore. I tuck them under me and sit criss-cross in the passenger seat. she backs out and we're on the road. she turns up the radio and I sit trying to stay awake. it's Saturday and there's no way I'm wasting a night were I can stay up as long as I want without having to worry about school the next morning.

"did you have fun?"

she asks, and it jerks me out of my daze.

"Oh yeah, I mean, you know, wasn't crazy about the whole, people situation, but I liked hanging out with you."

I really, really, REALLY don't like having to talk to people that I don't know, not in a cool, off the grid, kind of way , but in a wallflower kind of way.

"Yeah I know, sorry, I forget you're a shy little wallflower sometimes, but I liked hanging out with you out of the house, gives me a chance to dress cuter than pyjamas."

I think of how we'd just lounged around our apartment for like two months. it was nice to breath in trees instead of laundry.

we drive for an hour back into town, and she buys me a coffee, as I was promised. after chugging it while she laughs at me, for chugging it, I feel more awake.

"Well, what now?"

she works at a bookstore, and I'm going to college while working at a tee shirt company, so money's  a little , well, little.

so nothing fun basically.

"ummmmm...."

"let's call rose, and maybe...sarah?"

I look at her car radios clock, it's 2:00 am,

"do you think they'll be awake?"

I ask.

she laughs,

"if we're still awake, then they are going to be also."

can't argue with science.
