Unfaithful

Mikayla was excited that she was about to write her first article for the Boston Post. She was dreaming about getting this job since she was in third grade. She even majored in journalism in Oxford.

What Mikayla was not so excited about was the fact that she had to do her article on a mental hospital patient named Violet Lawson. She has been in the hospital only for a few months and her release is coming up in a few weeks.

So far, Violet has not been allowed any visitors except for family, but Mikayla is Violet's second cousin, once removed so they allowed her in.

Even though the fact that they are related is the only reason why she got the job, she liked to think it is also because of her amazing writing skills.

The lady led Mikayla to Violet's room. "She's been very quiet." The lady said to her with a slight Scottish accent. "I doubt you will get very much from her."

Mikayla nodded. "For the sake of my job, I really hope that you're wrong." She said with a half smile.

The lady unlocked Violet's room. "I wish you good luck." The lady said before leaving. Mikayla gave her a warm smile before entering the room.

"...Violet?" Mikayla said with hesitance. She looked at Violet's tinny figure hunched over a desk. It looked like she was scrawling something quickly onto a notepad. When she heard the unfamiliar voice, she stopped and slowly looked up.

"Do I know you?" She snapped. Her voice was raspy, as if she had not used it in a while.

Mikayla, not discouraged from Violet's lack of politeness, responded. "You don't know me, but I know who you are. I am here on the behalf of the Boston Post newspaper."

When Mikayla saw Violet's slightly confused face, she replied, "I'm a distant relative so they let me in." Violet nodded once.

"I am here to publish the story of the Eastbrooke High School shooting. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what happened." Mikayla said.

"Why don't you ask someone else? There are over three thousand kids at that high school. Why don't you ask one of them?" Violet snapped at Mikayla.

"Because none of those kids really know what happened. All they know is that some psychopath named Mary Combs decided that it would be a nice day to go on a little stroll with a gun. The police could not find the motive that the killer had."

Mikayla looked at Violet. "I know that you have something to do with the shooting at the school. And I also know that you know why Mary shot those people. Could you please tell me?"

Violet sighed. It seemed difficult for her to talk about that day. "I will tell you." Violet finally said.

Violet's POV

"Mom!" I groan. "I don't want to go to school today! We aren't even going to do anything! Today is the pep rally before play offs!" I shout at my mom.

"It doesn't matter Violet. Its just cramps! Every girl gets them." My mom replies back.

I glared at her. "Fine. But if I curse someone out like last time, it's your fault." I said as I got up to go to school.

I brushed my platinum blonde hair back to put it in a ponytail and I quickly applied mascara to my blue eyes before running down to eat my breakfast.

My best friend Riley picked me up to take me to school. One look at me and she knew immediately. "Cramps?" She asked and I nodded and glared as she gave me a sympathetic look.
