Soft, curly brown hair clung to Oliver's face, his sweaty white button-down now transparent against his skin. He felt the moistness of his feet sliding in his penny loafers as he ran through the dark, gothic halls of his family's mansion. His heart pounding in his chest, he couldn't shake the feeling that today might be the day of his inevitable death.

As he ran, the footsteps behind him grew louder, closing in with each passing moment. Despite his best efforts, he couldn't outrun the figure that pursued him. Suddenly, his legs gave out beneath him, and he braced himself for what was to come.

It was as if time had slowed down, and he could see a dark figure looming above him, ready to strike. But before he could hit the ground, the world around him shifted, and he found himself falling into a void of darkness.

When he came to, he was no longer in the mansion but in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by nothingness. The feeling of helplessness washed over him as he struggled to stay afloat. Just as he thought he couldn't hold on any longer, an alluring young woman with silky gray skin and long coily hair swam towards him.

She gracefully carried him out of the water onto the shore of what appeared to be an island. Oliver's body appeared to be lifeless, his lips blue, and his skin pale as death. The young woman had a slight look of concern, but it quickly washed away as she began to sing a harmonious song that could make even the god of war fall to his knees.

Almost immediately, Oliver arose, jerking up and spitting out waterfalls of water that had been lodged inside his lungs. The curly-haired young man who should have been declared deceased was now revived.

As he tried to make sense of what had happened, the young woman started to walk back towards the ocean, her hips swaying so elegantly it appeared to have hypnotized the confused Oliver. Snapping out of the spell, the thankful young man shouted at the woman, "Wait, who are you?"

She stopped for a split second, slightly turning her head as if considering an answer, then disregarding the distraught young man, she continued walking away unswerving.

Not knowing what to do, the now-revived Oliver ran after her, but it was too late as she had already dived back into the depths of the ocean. Confused and alone, Oliver shouted at the water with the slightest hint of fear in his mellow tone, but to no avail.

Turning back towards the island, he saw that it was spacious, with the beach leading to endless amounts of jungle. The young man couldn't fathom how or why he had arrived at such a destination. Despite his racing mind, he felt relieved that the small leather satchel his grandmother had given him last year for his seventeenth birthday remained miraculously stuck to his body.

Interestingly enough, all the items in the satchel were dry, including the empty pages of his grandmother's owl-embossed journal. In fact, everything was oddly enough in perfect condition.

As he sat there trying to gather his thoughts, he couldn't help but wonder who the woman was that had saved his life. She seemed almost otherworldly with her gray like skin and coily hair. Her voice was like an angel and her presence had a calming effect on him. He couldn't help but feel grateful to her.

Looking around he noticed that the island was lush and vibrant with various types of trees, bushes, and flowers. Birds were chirping and monkeys were jumping from tree to tree. It was almost like he had been transported to another world.

The sound of rustling leaves and the occasional chirp of a bird were the only things he could hear as he walked through the jungle. The trees towered over him, casting shadows on the ground that shifted with the breeze. Oliver felt a sense of unease wash over him as he realized he had no idea where he was or how he was going to get back home.
