I paced the waiting room, looking a lot like all the other people in there as well. Why do they bother putting chairs in here, nobody ever uses them.

The doctor walked in hours later, "Mari Takahashi?" I leapt up, it was rather hard considering I was already standing. Everyone else has stepped outside. I followed the eerily quiet doctor. "Where's Mari? Why aren't you answering me?! IS SHE DEAD?" I know I had a slight temper issue, but this was totally justified. "No, she is not dead, but she is quite lucky. Most mothers in her condition don't make it," he said as pretty as you please. "Excuse me? I'm looking for Mari Takahashi, you know, with the major abdominal pain?" I was starting to get irritated with this guy. What kind of place are they running here? We passed a room and I glanced inside. I wished I hadn't. Mari was laying inside, blood covering every surface of her perfection. I got nauseous immediately. "She's been under for about an hour, she should be up soon," the doctor announced and walked out, leaving me with the remains of Mari.

It had to have been 5 AM or so when I woke up. When we woke up. I looked in her wide awake and quite alive eyes. I knew she was alive, I was still afraid she'd never wake up. "Hello beautiful, looks like we're back here again huh?" She smiled, my god. I could make someone who looked and most likely felt like they just came back from the grave laugh. That has to be some kind of record. But just as soon as it was there, it fell away and was replaced with pain. Tears were forming in her glossy eyes. "Hey no, you're fine. What's the matter?" I asked her. Her chest was heaving in pain in an effort to sob. "You gotta stop crying, it's hurting you!" I started panicking. "What did we do David?" She started crying out. "Sshh, don't yell," I said gently. "Get your damn hands off of me! Do you even understand the extent of the issue? I can't do this, I'm not ready! For fucks sake, I didn't even know until 10 hours ago!" I have never seen her like this before. "What are you talking about?" I managed to get out. I was kinda amazed by what she was doing, her voice has never risen above a bell. "I'm talking about Suzuki!" She completely broke down. I was utterly confused. "Sorry, but what's Suzuki?" I asked softly. She pulled her head out of her arms. She stared straight in my eyes. I knew there was something different in them this time. "David, you're a dad now."

Five minutes, I was in the nursery holding my daughter. I was in a situation that I'd thought I'd never be in a year ago. My love for Mari had shifted to make room for Suzuki, our perfect daughter, our perfect family. I looked down at Suzuki's smiling, scrunched pink face and I knew right then, that my world had changed.
