Chapter 12: Dead Clay

After breakfast on Thursday, another cereal day, I go to the gun range and investigate that button, while Debbie is downloading my lesson. Turns out it connects to a switch-box with ten switches, only one of which is on. He has five hundred target launchers back here, as expected, based on his purchase of them.
I go back to the firing position and hit the button. I fire and nail all fifty close to a second later. Repeating it, until I get it down to half a second, all the while skimming my lessons and saving facts. I automated the targeting process and firing process similar to last night’s plan.
Debbie tests me while I flip three more switches on. Once the testing is done, I hit the button and nail two hundred in a second and a half. I repeat that, until I get them within one second, by improving my automated process.
I go through another testing phase, as I turn on the remaining six. I am now completely caught up to where I supposedly should have been in school. It is almost lunchtime so I fire the five hundred. I actually get them all in two seconds. I tell Debbie to send Dan the video as seen by me, plus the one seen by her. Before I head into the kitchen, I walk to the corral to say hello to Spirit and Honey.
I see Bambi eating the grass at the edge of our yard. My fault for forcing her to watch Tom and Dan. She did not know this grass existed previously.
Everyone is watching the videos when I arrive. I get embarrassed as they clap for me. I watch the last video revealing the ten on switches and every launcher tossing its clay target. All of which did not even reach their maximum high before they exploded into dust.
Dan replays the video from my eyes. He asks, “This is not one of my cameras, so do we get another lesson today?”
I respond, “I told you I was planning on working on it last night. Just one of many tasks.” I tell Debbie to send the video of my breathing under water and play it. I transport my bracelet into my hand and toss it to him.
He glances at it, followed by a double check of an in-depth examination, while everyone else watches me under water. After the timer shows three minutes gone by, the questions start.
I ask Debbie to state how long I was under water. Debbie responds, “she spent two hours thirty minutes and thirty-two seconds under the water, most of it sleeping.”
Dan laughs, “guess someone has investigated their opponent. My memories or Debbie’s.”
I reply, “I was worried so couldn’t sleep. I feel your memories are cheating so Debbie’s.”
Dan asks, “try an animal yet?”
I laugh, “my dream this morning was flying as an eagle. But not yet. After we eat, was my plan.”
Dan frowns, “I guess I need to accept losing. Because you will beat me. Now, can you teach us all of it?”
I respond, “can you tell us more of the threat?”
Dan shakes his head no, “I will soon.” To me only, ‘I need them to stay in the dark or they run.’
Eventually, people remember we are here to eat, so we actually do it. The questions die down. More normal meal conversation starts up as we eat our sausage subs.
Afterwards, I transport Dan and I to the waterfall. ‘It seems you are not sharing everything you know magic-wise with your staff. Why?’
Dan responds and flips it, ‘I don’t know what... Alright, yes. Your technique is easier and more powerful. I didn’t want to screw up their potential. Everyone I have taught has been getting a limited training.’
