"Nick, do you seriously think that summoning an all-knowing entity is a good plan to find out the answers to the exam?" You asked, furrowing at the book your boyfriend was holding.

"That's the best plan I can think of. Do you have anything else in mind?" He raised a brow at you and closed the book.  You sighed and shook your head. He was right and you hated it. You had more than a month to prepare to your exams, and yet all you did was party every day and have an orgy once.

"Alright, so what do we need to summon it?"

He turned a page and tapped his finger on a supply list.

"A mirror, it says here it has to stand on its own. A pin, a piece of paper, something to write, matches and a black candle. Each participant should have their own set. We have to begin after nightfall."

You nodded slowly.

"Are there any warnings?"

"Of course there are, quite plenty." He turned a few pages to find the right part. "We can't ask our correspondent about themselves, close our eyes for more than forty four seconds, go outside or stop playing in any other way before completing the farewell."

"Why? What would happen?"

"They will hunt us."

A shiver crawled up your spine. Was getting answers worth it?

You met Nick in a room without the windows, hidden somewhere in the basements of the Academy. You brought pencils, paper and pins, your boyfriend took care of the rest. He closed the door when you walked in, cutting the only light source you've had. In complete darkness you felt his lips on yours, leaving a sweet kiss before your eyes adjusted to the dark.

"Are you ready?" He asked, looking you in the eye, even though you could barely see each other.

"No."

He laughed sweetly and kissed your cheek. You didn't find it funny. You were frightened to death.

"Let's begin."

You handed him one set of paper, pencil and pin and you both sat on the floor, facing the same direction. You drew an eye on your piece of paper, as simple as possible and then pricked your finger with the pin. For a second you looked at the blob of blood forming on your finger, but eventually held your breath and placed a few drops of it on the drawing.

Nick handed you a mirror and placed his own in front of himself. You mimicked his moves and did the same, so you were able to see your own reflection. Scared, widened eyes stared at you from the mirror. You turned your gaze away and placed the drawing of the eye between yourself and it.

You looked at Nick, and when he nodded you both used your matches to light the candles.

You took a deep breath.

"Ethri, Ethri," you started chanting simultaneously "scientia est scientia, intellectum ed intelligendum. Every light cast a shadow, yet without light shadow cannot be. Dispel the darkness of ignorance, bring the light of truth from the shadows."

After you've repeated it four times, you blew the candles and immediately relighted them.

For a few seconds all you've heard was breathing and your heart pumping blood, that noise echoed in your ears. Nick's fingers gently touched yours, he was just going to say that the ritual has failed, but then you heard, no, you felt something. A presence, sensation of being watched.

Dear Satan.

Nick squeezed your hand and let go. You turned around.

A voice which you more felt than heard echoed somewhere deep inside of you, making you instantly cold.
