Fate Prologue
*2003*
"Mommy, look how high I can throw the ball!" I squealed as I tossed the red rubber ball high up into the air. To me, it looked like it almost touched the clouds, where I always seemed to have my head in.
"That's great sweetie," my mom called from her lounge chair on the front lawn, not even glancing up from her magazine. I pouted, wanting her to see the highest I'd ever thrown it, but forgot that I had to catch it. The ball bounced a couple times before rolling away, with me chasing it, out into the street. My mum had told me to look both ways before crossing, but I didn't because I was intent on getting my favorite ball.
"Look out!" a voice shrieked before I was tackled to the grass on the side of the road by a boy around my age with blonde hair. I looked up just in time to see my ball being run over by a large black truck. Tears welled up into my eyes as I realized that instead of the ball being hit, it could have been me.

The calm breeze gently rustled the autumn leaves on the trees, making some fall gracefully to the ground around me as I walked through the woods. Whenever I had needed some time alone, I would always come here to feel the serenity of nature, and to get away from the bustling city life. There was something about the place that made me feel safe and secure, wrapped away in my own little world.
"Hey, look over here!" someone called from nearby, and I could hear more voices in response to it. I sighed, realizing it was saturday, which meant that the boy scouts were on a hike. I always had to hide whenever they came out, I didn't want them to see me all alone in the woods. They wouldn't understand. They'd think I was weird.
I backed up further into the underbrush, hoping to be concealed from the boys' sight. Just a little more, I thought as I put my right foot back a step. I gasped when there was nothing underneath it, and I felt myself falling backwards, about to go down a huge hill. That was, until somebody grabbed my hand, pulling me up onto safe ground. I looked up into the eyes of my saviour to see blonde hair and blue eyes that seemed so familiar yet so different at the same time.

I walked out into the crisp, clean autumn air to the bright sun hitting my face. I placed my newly borrowed book into the crook of my arm and was about to descend the many steps in front of the library when a scene before me caught my attention.
"I can't believe you cheated on me!" a girl shrieked at presumably her boyfriend. She looked beyond mad, and he was looking, well, irritated wouldn't even describe it.
"You're always whining! What else am I supposed to do?"
"Maybe try and talk to me about it before going around with every girl you see!"
I can have any girl I want, I don't see what's so special about you. Maybe I'll go for... that girl!" the man exclaimed before pointing right at me. I gasped, losing my footing a little in the process and started to stumble, shrieking as I put my arms out to brace the fall that never came. A strong arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me back to their chest before I could feel an impact. Glancing behind me, I met a pair of blue eyes that I couldn't help but feel like I've seen before.
*2012*
The wet leaves crunched under my feet as I walked down the dark street after my shift at work ended. I hated working the late shifts, but I needed the money to buy a car, mainly because I hated walking home as well.
Looking back at my past, I used to always love nature and taking it all in.
Everything changed after that day in the woods when I had almost fell to my death.
Almost.
That boy... I couldn't remember his face clearly, but I couldn't help but feel like I've seen him before. Maybe I have. Maybe I just didn't recognize him then.
Or maybe I'm over thinking this like I always do.
Yeah, that sounds about right.
"Give me the purse," a gruff voice said from behind me, grabbing my arm and making my thoughts scatter. I screamed, trying to pry my arm away from his iron grip, but he was locked on tight, his other hand grabbing my purse and ripping it from my hands.
"Let me go!" I pleaded, starting to cry from the pain he was inflicting on my arm. He roughly let go of me, pushing a little so I stumbled. Regaining my balance, I looked up at him, but his face was covered by his hood. He saw me looking at him and came closer, raising his hand to strike at me and causing me to shrink back in fear of a blow that never came.
I couldn't believe my eyes.
A blonde boy had jumped on the man's back, kicking at his legs in the process.
"Take your bag back!" he exclaimed, grabbing at the man's flailing arms to try and hold them in place for me to grab my purse. I quickly ran over, snatching my purse from him and backed away.
"Get off of me you pest," the man growled, writhing around to try and shake the boy off. He jumped off the man's back and started to run, grabbing my hand as he passed me and dragging me along with him. I looked back to see if the man was in pursuit, but he was nowhere in sight.
"I think he's gone," I panted, and the boy immediately slowed down, noticing I was really out of breath. It's not that I couldn't run, I was still hurt from when he had pushed me. That, mixed with my fear, didn't make very good running conditions.
"Are you alright?" he asked, his Irish accent ringing through my ears. He turned fully around, and that's when it struck me. Everything came rushing at me at full force as I stared at his beautiful, familiar face.
He saved me from being run over.
He saved me from falling off a hill.
He saved me from tripping down many steps.
He saved me from being mugged.
He was the one.
But he was also Niall Horan...
