Today's the day I've been waiting for since I was little. Today I start my first year at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.

I should have introduced myself first. I'm Y/n Loesser, and I turned 11 in March. I have an older sister Evelina, but everyone calls her Evie. She's a second year. Well, starting her second year today, and she's 13. Also, she's a Ravenclaw. Just like mum and dad were Ravenclaws, and my grandparents were Ravenclaws too. On that note, I hope I get sorted into Ravenclaw to keep the tradition going.

"Y/n! Get your rubbish downstairs, mum's getting the floo powder," Evie yelled from the floor below me. I put my owl, Milo, back in his cage and hauled my trunk and suitcases out of my bedroom and down the stairs. Mum stood at the kitchen table, behind the large pot of floo powder we kept handy.

"You both have your wands?" She asked.

"Yes," Evie and I said in unison.

"Robes and books?"

"Yes."

"Do you both have-"

"Mum, we have everything, there's no need to worry," Evie said reassuringly. Mum sighed and looked at us both. She walked up to me and hugged me tight.

"I'll miss you both dearly," she said, pulling Evie in too. She held my face in her hands and looked at me long and hard, like she was memorizing what I looked like.

"Mum, you're not crying are you?" I asked.

"Of course not," she lied, wiping her eyes. "My little lass is going on a new adventure and growing up far too fast, that's all."

"I hate to interrupt, but the train leaves in fifteen minutes," Evie said.

"Right, right," Mum mumbled, flustered. She took up the pot of floo powder and Evie and I each took a fistful of it. Evie looked at me.

"Ready?"

I nodded. We threw the floo powder at the ground, making sure to say "platform nine and three quarters" very clearly, and we were sucked into the haze.
