I appeared in the middle of a very busy train station, children and families walking every which way. I looked over at the Hogwarts Express, and it was exactly as Evie had described it; a shiny black steam engine with scarlet-colored cars, and a plaque that said "HOGWARTS EXPRESS" on the front in glittering golden letters. I was so fascinated by my surroundings that I hadn't noticed that Evie wasn't standing beside me. I pushed my trolley through the crowd, frantically searching for her.
"Evie! Evie?" I shouted, scanning face after face. None of them were hers. What if the floo powder took her to the wrong station? What if she never got through at all? My mind raced with worse and worse thoughts until someone grabbed my arm. I whipped my head around to see Evie standing with two redheaded boys around her age dressed in Gryffindor robes, and another with mousy brown hair dressed in Hufflepuff robes.
"Where are you off to?" Evie asked. I jerked my arm away.
"I was off to find you after you abandoned me back there, Evelina," I said angrily. "Mum would have your head for leaving me all alone."
Evie laughed. "Mum's rules don't apply outside the house, y/n, we're in the real world now." The Hufflepuff smiled.
"I didn't know you had a sister, Eve," he said.
"I'm y/n," I say. "It's my first year."
"Thought so. Cedric Diggory," he said, offering his hand for me to shake. I did. The redheads introduced themselves next.
"I'm Fred Weasley," one of them said, "and that's my twin George," gesturing to the other. I looked up at Evie.
"How do you tell them apart?"
"We don't," Cedric laughed. "They're like one person, they come in a package. So it's just Fred-and-George." I grin, liking these boys already. The train whistle blows suddenly. My hands fly up to cover my ears and everyone else is startled.
"All aboard, last call!" yells the conductor from a window in the first car. Cedric looks down at his watch and his eyes widen.
"Son of a boggart, the train leaves in two minutes!" We all grab our own trolleys and run to board the train before all the seats are taken.
