Much like any other mermaid, for the most part Romina almost never went to the surface unless it was dark out. Whenever she did go up though, she almost never saw many people, and if anyone say her she hid. Although she wasn't really allowed, Romina made her way to the surface during daylight out of curiosity.

Sitting on the beach happened to be another woman who looked around the same age as Romina. She had blonde wavy hair and wore glasses. She was clearly short and had many freckles along her face and shoulders. At the time, she appeared to be wearing a long light blue dress and had on a flower crown as well. The odd thing was, she seemed to be alone.

Normally when Romina saw people on the beach, they seemed to be in groups playing with a beach ball or collecting shells, or doing some sort of other activity. Romina wasn't used to seeing just one person. Also, most of the people she saw didn't have cat ears and a tail. She perched up on a rock and watched Payton carefully out of curiosity.

Payton looked up after hearing the waves and noticed Romina, gasping softly and placing her hand over her mouth in surprise. She'd heard of merfolk but never expected she'd actually see one. She happened to be sitting on the beach one day because she enjoyed feeding the seagulls, but this was something she hadn't expected.

The moment Romina realized she had been seen, she quickly hid behind the rocks and peaked out to see Payton again, finding her to be interesting, but also not wanting to be hunted like she'd heard about other merfolk.

Payton frowned a bit, moving the hair out of her eyes and slowly walking over towards the water. "Hey, it's okay. I won't hurt you" she noticed Romina peaking out and gave a look of concern.

Romina looked up and slowly came out from hiding, swimming up and perching on a rock that happened to be right near Payton. "You look stunning, what brings someone as cute as you out here this early?"

Payton blushed faintly "Thank you" she laughed nervously then looked back to Romina "Well, the seagulls seemed hungry. And all of my friends are busy right now" she shrugged and walked over, eyeing over Romina's features

"I'm not supposed to be out here this time of day, but I couldn't resist. Everything looks so beautiful out here, and you- you're quite charming. Your face just adds to this elegant scenery" Romina moved in and cupped Payton's face in her hand, eyeing her over. "It's nice seeing someone out here. I'm normally alone unless my sister is around, and well..she's evil..." Romina looked down for a minute then gazed up to Payton, admiring her a bit. "What's the likelihood of you sticking around? You don't have to be here all the time, but I'd love the company- That is, if you don't mind"

Payton looked surprised and was pretty flustered from the comments Romina had given, although besides that she seemed pretty happy. "I'd love to! You seem pretty nice and my friends always seem busy nowadays"

Throughout the next couple of months, Payton started visiting more often and the two grew closer, eventually settling on dating.

"Payton?"

"Yes, Romina?"

"You're beautiful and I love you dearly"

"I love you too, Ro. And you're beautiful"

Payton laid her head on Romina's shoulder and shifted closer, Romina moving her arm around Payton's shoulder as they spent the rest of the night stargazing and holding each other close.
