Sasuke POV
Once the senseis left us, our little group, plus Sai, went to get dango and plan. Menma, being the annoying thing he is, wanted to come with. Thinking back on it, we shouldn't have let him come along. The guy was the most irritable thing one could come across.
"Why do you guys always hang out together. I mean, it would be really boring to just hang out with the same people your whole life.
"How have you guys not gotten bored of each other? Didn't three of you meet when Hinata turned 3? That means you've been hanging out with each other for 9 years. And you met Sakura when you were 9 so you've been with her 3 years. You've been friends for 6 years without Sakura.
"When did you meet Sai? I'm guessing when you were 7 - 9 you met. So that means you've been friends around 3 - 5 years. You've probably been friends with him longer than Sakura. Your probably-"
"Can you please shut up Menma? You're being annoying." I snapped at him.
He looked confused. "What is there to feel annoyed about? I just said what I thought."
This guy annoys the hell out of me. I just glared at him, then started up a conversation with Naruto until we reached the dango place. Once we ordered, then received our orders, we started planning for our test.
Minus Menma of course.
"From what I've read and heard about Kakashi-sensei, he would most likely give us a test based on teamwork. He puts teamwork first before everything. Hell, the guy even has a motto about putting comrades before the mission." Sakura told us, pausing every so often to eat her dango.
"My mom is probably gonna do the same as The Cyclops." Naruto replied, eyes not leaving his food.
We all stared at him. About a minute later, he realized we were staring at him.
"What? Only one of his eyes show, so I call him The Cyclops." He waved his dango stick around, trying to get our attention off of him.
Hinata came to his rescue. "Anyways, what should we do for the test? If it's about teamwork, we just need to work together." Naruto gave her a grateful look, which she returned with a smile.
"If he's as predictable as I think he is, he'll try getting us to go against each other. That way, he can see how willing we are to work in teams." Sakura explained.
"If I'm thinking about this correctly, Kushina-sensei will do the same thing as Kakashi-sensei. She'll likely use the same topic, but with a different approach to it. I'm thinking Kakashi will give us the 'oh so fabulous' bell test he's been using for all his past assigned teams." I added on to Sakura's description.
Menma interrupted our planning with a small outburst. "Why are you guys thinking so hard about these tests? You already have me, the Hokage's son and the heir to the Namikaze clan, on one of your teams." He bragged.
"In case you forgot, I was the original heir for both the Namikaze and Uzumaki clan. You and Mito only got the parts because you have the Kyuubi's chakra sealed in you two." Naruto retorted blandly to his brother.
Menma looked furious at Naruto's words.
"At least I have an important role in the ninja world. All you are is a mistake of a brother." He stated arrogantly.
It was silent as Menma's words rang through the air.
Naruto was the first to react. He got up and hastily walked away, tears beginning to well up in his eyes. Hinata ran after him, pausing to glare at her now hated teammate. Sakura paid for the food we ate and ran after Naruto with Hinata.
Sai and I were now the only ones left with the hated blond brother of our shared friend.
I had previously heard from Naruto that Sai is usually emotionless, unless one of the very few people he cared about were being hurt in any way. One time while the two of them walked, a villager was whispering obscene things about him, the villager went missing later in the day.
"Care to explain why you said that to him" I glared at him. He looked less sure of himself once I spoke to him.
"Everyone says it all the time. You of all people should've at least thought about it at some point. Mito says it the most." I don't know how, but Sai still had his usual fake looking smile on.
"If Naruto is a mistake, then I guess that would make you," He jabbed Menma in the chest," A failure of a child." His fake smile began looking like an insane, psychotic type of smile. I now felt like I knew what happened to that villager Naruto told me about.
"Naruto is a compassionate, hard working friend of mine. After hanging out with his friends Duckbutt Pale-eyes and Pinky, he comes to me to make sure I'm not lonely." His smile now wavered.
"When he found out my older brother, in everything but blood, died, he always made sure to check on me. I took him for granted at first, thinking I was better off by myself. He proved my thinking wrong and as of now, is my only friend." Sai's words seemed to hit Menma.
"While he's done all that for just me, what have you been doing?" He questioned, still smiling creepily. Menma seemed to falter at his question.
"Oh, I forgot to say. Naruto befriended a couple of higher ups in the council from small things he did for them. He helped Danzo-sama with paperwork one day. Shikaku Nara plays shoji with him after he helped get his son more active in shinobi work.
"Hell, even Inochi Yamanaka owes him after lost a bet to Naruto the other day about Ino's behaviour towards her 'Precious Sasuke-kun'. You won't believe how many council members know him personally." Menma looked lost now, and seemed to regret his earlier words.
"Now what have you done? Befriend someone who needs another person to bring them back to earth? Enlighten a clan head about the alarming behavior of their clan heir? Motivate someone to get better? You. Did. Nothing. You don't deserve to be a clan heir. Now, do you understand my point? You are the worst kind of person there is. You don't deserve to have someone like Naruto in your life." And with that, he walked away.
Menma began looking relieved now that Sai left.
I can't blame him though. The guy is scary.
"He got most of it down. That leaves me to tell you about what my Naruto goes through, every single fucking day he lives in this village." His head jerked towards me the moment the words left my mouth. It seemed he forgot I was still here.
"Whenever he walks through the village, there are people whispering the most vulgar of things about him, not caring if he hears it or not. Before, while Hinata was still the Hyuuga clan heir, whenever he walked around with her, there would be a lot less whispers." I ranted.
"Once she gave up the title, people started whispering again. Naruto always hears them, but he does his best to ignore them. I once asked him about it, he said he would thank them. I called him crazy, but then he explained it to me."
"He told me 'If they didn't say what they did as often as they did, I wouldn't be as strong emotionally'. He wants to thank the people who do nothing but make his life hard. That's not all. When we were only 3 years old, he saved Hinata from being kidnapped."
"Wasn't it you who saved her? The news was all over the village." Menma had a look of shock on his face now.
"No, he did. Naruto wanted me to get more attention from my family, so he made sure I got all the credit." I answered blankly.
"Why would he do that?" Menma asked me. I answered softly after a slight pause.
"Because I was his first friend."
Hello my readers!
I'm sorry about the long breaks between updates. I need to pass a class I did pretty much nothing in. I need to do all the assignments I missed and redo anything I did bad on. Please bear with me. Once I am able to, I will update more regularly and more often.
