The rain kept pouring and never seemed to stop. Some students rushed out of the university, whereas Kongpob took out his umbrella and started walking towards his home. He wanted to go home, lie on his warm bed and never get out of it. As he got closer to his home he saw a man sitting on the pavement with slumped shoulders and head hung down. As he walked closer he found out that it was his cute boyfriend Arthit.
Kongpob held the umbrella under him and said, "P'Arthit let's go inside. I am afraid you might catch a cold."
Arthit stood up and wrapped his hand around Kongpob's hand feeling the warmth of his love. "No Kong. I have to go now. Tomorrow I need to be early at office. I came just because I missed you. Goodnight. And. Goodbye," said Arthit slowly removing his hands. The rain stopped and Arthit started to walk away.
"Let me drop you P'Arthit," Kongpob slowly went near him. "It's okay you must be tired. Take rest," said the retreating figure.
Kongpob went inside only to find his mother and father waiting for him in the hallway. Both his parents came close and hugged him tightly. They pulled away and handed him a letter. He fell down on his knees as he saw the familiar handwriting of his elder boyfriend. Tear started running down his eyes when he read the letter. That's when he realized that his boyfriend had bid farewell to him when he said goodbye.
Kongpob got up and just climbed the stairs without uttering a word. His parents went to his room and called up a detective to gather information about his son's boyfriend. His mother saw the information and was astonished by the results. She knew what the problem was now.
Kongpob sat on the bed and cried thinking about the letter. Arthit had written in his letter that his mother has arranged a marriage for him with someone. He also mentioned that he was a coward who couldn't confront his mom about their relationship. Kongpob wiped his tears and kept the letter inside the drawer that was beside his bed. There was a knock at the door. "Come in," he said. Kongpob's mother opened the door and came inside. She sat beside him and patted him. "I think you should confront Arthit's mother tomorrow about your relationship,"she said firmly. Kongpob was shocked and was afraid what would happen. "Mom but I don't know his address," said Kongpob dejectedly. She took out a paper that had the address and handed it to her son. Kongpob's mother ruffled his hair and walked to the door. "Sleep well and all the best for tomorrow," she said closing the door.
The next day Kongpob went straight to his house and rang the bell. A woman opened the door. "Are you Mrs.Rojanapat?"he asked. "Yes I am," she replied. Kongpob without wasting a minute to reply said "I am P'Arthit's boyfriend."
Mrs.Rojanapat opened the door and let him in. She led him to the sofa and both sat on it. Kongpob explained their relationship and he said that she might approve since she herself had a female partner in the past. "Are you sure that you are in a relationship with my son," she inquired. "Yes ma'am. But P'Arthit is afraid that you might not accept and that you might be disappointed," said Kongpob handing over the letter he got from P'Arthit yesterday to her.
Mrs.Rojanapat had tears reading the letter she read. Before she could call her son, he had came down. "Kongpob," he called out in a trembling tone. "Is he your boyfriend?" Mrs.Rojanapat inquired. Fear over took Arthit and he before he knew tears started flowing out. His breathing started to get heavy and he got a panic attack. Before his mother could reach him, Kongpob had went closer to him and told him to breathe in and out slowly and rubbed his back to calm him down. His mother was surprised that his son's panic attack had calmed down soon. By seeing Kongpob she could say that he truly loved her son. She cleared her throat and started to speak.
"My partner who was dead was a woman," she said. Arthit looked at her dumbstruck. "We both met each other at our college. She was a 2 years younger than me. We both started dating and once both of us had a stable job. We wanted to get married and adopt a kid. We first arranged the adoption process alone and then we went to meet my parents to get permission for our relationship. We only had to get permission from my parents since she didn't have any family member. When we visited my parents they didn't approve us and they bad mouthed us. We thought of waiting some time to get their approval. They say 'Life is full of rainbows' but I realized that wasn't true. One day while returning from work she got into an accident and died. Only later did I know it was my parents who hired someone to kill her. I realized that reality isn't a rainbow. We had planned on adopting you together. But since she died I adopted you and grew you up without having another partner," she completed wiping her tears.
Mrs. Rojanapat came and sat near her son. "Now you tell me what you want to do?"she asked. "I want to marry him,"said Arthit without stuttering. Kongpob looked surprised at the declaration of his shy boyfriend but he nodded in agreement with him. "I approve of it and you can marry whenever you want to. Welcome to the family Kongpob and you can call me Mom.",she said smiling. Both Kongpob and Arthit stood up to leave. "Before you leave I need to know one thing,"she said keeping her hands on hips. "How did you know that I had a female partner?"she asked staring intensely at Kongpob. "Your best friend betrayed her promise to you because she couldn't see her son sad. My mom is your best friend Mia,"chuckled Kongpob.
Arthit and Kongpob said goodbye to her and left the house. They walked down the street. "I agree with my mom. Reality isn't a rainbow," said Arthit. "But a rainbow exits in reality," said Kongpob smiling sweetly at his boyfriend.
