"You have to see a doctor Sultanim, you have been feeling ill every time you smell coffee or roasted meat, there has to be something going on," Esma Kalfa said worriedly brushing through my hair.
"There is nothing going on, maybe it's because I've never left Istanbul and the climate change is affecting me," I said back picking up my earings and secured them on my ears one after the other.
"The Shehzade will be worried when he hears of your uneasiness," Esma said. I turned around sharply and looked up at her with a slight glare on my face.
"Selim cannot hear of this, do you understand?" I asked squinting at her. Esma seemed hesitant before nodding and continued brushing my hair softly. A maid walked in and bowed to me with her head hung low, I nodded for her to speak.
"Your highness, a doctor was sent to Nurbanu hatun's room," She said making me raise my eyebrow at her in confusion.
"Do you know why, Hilal hatun?" I asked standing up. I hated Nurbanu naturally but it still worried me when someone got visited by the doctor, what if it was a sickness that could spread around.
"No Sultanim, she refused to say anything and told everyone to wait" She answered. I raised my eyebrow in confusion but nodded my head and sat back down to let Esma Kalfa place my headpiece on my head.
"I'll ask her myself" I walked out of my room with Hilal hatun and my two Kalfas behind me. I walked into the harem where Nurbanu was stood with a couple of maids, I didn't feel threatened by the maids since they were no concubines. The maids were moved to the harem instead of the small room they had to share underground with only one small window to show people's feet.
"Nurbanu" I called earning her attention. She smirked and walked over to stand in front of me before bowing her head.
"I heard a doctor came to visit, what is your sickness?" I asked glaring at her as she giggled a little behind her hand.
"Not a sickness, but a blessing" She answered. I raised my eyebrow in confusion. The maids stopped what they were doing and listened in on our conversation.
"I am pregnant," She said proudly. My whole world stopped for a moment as her words sunk in. Pregnant? From Selim? I felt like the world started spinning around me and her smirking face was the only one I could recognize.
I turned around and started walking out of the harem leaving her smug form behind. I felt like my head was growing heavier and heavier with each step I took towards my room until I couldn't hold it up any longer and it made contact with the floor and my vision turned to black.
"She's waking up" I heard a soft voice say as white started entering my vision. I slowly opened my eyes to see Selim sat beside me on a bed, his own bed in his room.
"Selim?" I asked confused. The last thing I remember was being in the harem when Nurbanu dropped on me the dreadful news of her pregnancy then nothing.
"What happened?" I asked softly feeling like someone was pounding on my head with a hammer every few seconds. I grimaced and raised my hand to touch the area that hurt the most.
"You fainted on the way to your room" Selim answered taking my hand into his and kissed the back of it with a soft smile.
"How did I end up in your room?" I asked taking Esma's hand and with Selim's help, I sat up and leaned back against the soft pillows.
"When your maids told me of the incident I bought you here and let the doctors examine you" Selim answered rubbing the back of my hand comfortingly.
"You didn't have to, there is nothing wrong with me, I fainted from Nurbanu's sudden (Dreadful) News" I answered keeping the word before last to myself.
"You are right there is nothing wrong with you but there is something going on," Selim said making me raise an eyebrow in confusion.
"You're pregnant Meylisah," He said placing his hand on my stomach. My eyes widened and my hand trailed on top of his own.
"We're going to have a child of our own?" I asked softly looking at him with teary eyes. He nodded his head with a grin making a huge grin take place on my face. I wrapped my arms around him and pulled him in for a hug.
"Two children at the same time, his highness is very lucky" Esma started helping me lay down in Selim's bed. I may not be sick but when I fainted my head made a strong contact with the floor earning me a small injury in the head.
"Esma, do not talk to me of Nurbanu's pregnancy, I do not want to hear anything about her or of her" I hissed angrily glaring at the woman in front of me. Esma seemed shocked by my outburst but nodded and pulled a blanket of my form to keep the cold away.
"Sutanim the doctor said you should drink some of this medicine for your head and do not worry it will not affect your pregnancy, it is all-natural herbs," Emira said side-eyeing Esma as a way to tell her what she had said was out of place.
"Thank you Emira" I let her place the spoon in my mouth dropping in the red liquid. I laid down in my bed feeling my head pound softly like a heart beating in it making me wince but as minutes passed the medicine took effect and the pounding became a distant memory for the time being.
I smiled softly as arms wrapped around me making me feel warm on the inside and outside. I placed my hand on top of his intertwining our fingers and pulled it up to my chest. I could feel his chest press against my beck spreading warmth into me like a fire. Selim placed a soft kiss on my cheek and pulled me even closer as the night went on.
