It was the 9th of august, the middle of the summer before Hermione's sixth year at Hogwarts. She had already spent a month at the burrow with the Weasleys, her and Molly were very busy making Ginny a knitted scarf and sweater for her fifteenth birthday, which was in 2 days. Hermione was also making Ginny a special chocolate cake she knew she loved.
While Hermione was making the cake and having trouble with the mixture of eggs and flour someone crept up behind her, "Lots of birthdays this summer, you must be busy." It was Fred who entered the kitchen and spoke in an unusually enthusiastic voice. "Yea I'm quite swamped, last week we had Harry's birthday, now Ginny's, and next month it'll be mine!" Hermione said with a small smile, her hair and face covered in flour. Fred looked at her with admiration like he always had but since she was in his house during the summer he saw something different in her. He didn't see her as his little brother's best friend but as Hermione, the smart talented witch who he didn't realize had such pretty brown eyes until now. Hermione broke the silence Fred didn't even notice existed, "What did you get ginny for her birthday?" "Nothing yet" he replied, "I've been meaning to get flowers for her but I don't know what her favorites are." "Moly flowers," Hermione said. "We talked about it a while back, they have strong magical powers and can counteract enchantments. They're also beautiful flowers." "And where might I find one of these flowers?" Fred tried to make it sound casual but behind that, he was desperate to give his sister her favorite flowers since him and George had been pulling mean pranks on her the entire summer. Hermione giggled "There's a small field of them 15 minutes from here." "Do you want to come with me?" Fred asked. Hermione did not expect that, her and Fred have never done anything together, they've only had some small talk over the course of the summer since they lived in the same house and ran into each other at school once in a while. Even though she was scared to spend time with him one on one, she did get happy when she thought about going on a little journey to find Moly flowers with him. She had to make sure to not let her excitement get the better of her though, she didn't want Fred to know she was excited to spend more time with him. "So what do you say?" Fred asked. "Sure, I'll go with you, when do you want to go?" Hermione replied. "When ur finished with your cake, so let me know when you're done and ready to leave." Fred said and walked away and Hermione went back to working on her cake.
Baking the rest of the cake went quite smoothly, an hour later the cake was done and ready to be frosted, but Hermione wanted to wait until the day before Ginny's birthday to do that. She walked up to the second floor and knocked on Fred and Georges' bedroom door. Fred opened the door and they walked downstairs and were just about to leave when they heard a voice. "Where are you two going?" It was Molly, who was sitting in the living room finishing Ginny's sweater. "We were going to the Moly field not far from here." Fred answered. "Okay, but you need to be back before it gets dark." And so they went walking.
