You and Hanji were currently in the laboratory ,working on the portal.
The whole machine was almost complete and only thing I needed now was a special computer with a control panel to reconnect the portal. The bracelet that helps me navigate through dimensions still worked thankfully, so I didn't need to worry about that.

"Soooooo...we would need some strong wiring, metal, liquid helium, copper, ..." Hanji said, scribbling away on her clipboard.

I stood up, wiping some black grease from my face and frowned when I accidentally stained my white shirt.

My crutches were now gone and most of the bandages were removed by the kind nurses 2 days ago. Only some faint scars across my face, arms and hands remained like a reminder.

"I think that's all. Tomorrow there's that meeting with the King, right?" I asked and turned around ,walking to a nearby sink in order to wash my hands. The cold water felt refreshing after a whole day of hammering, screwing, lifting and pushing.

Erwin didn't allow me to train yet though.

Maybe another punishment for my behaviour.

Letting out a small scoff by the thought of it, I grabbed a clean towel and observed the portal.

Why should I train anymore? The machine is almost done. I can almost go home.

But why...

Does that make me feel so...sad?

"(Y/N)!"

"AAH! YES?!" I yelled out, dropping the towel. Hanji stood really close to me. So close that I had to back up a little. Her eyes narrowed before slowly eyeing me up and down. Her glasses lit up as she pushed them up her nose.

My own eyes just wandered to the ceiling as I focused on an interesting spot in de left corner of the room.

"Where were you?"

"Eh? I was here the whole time, Hanji?"

The bespectacled woman turned around...also looking at the portal. She let out an aggravaged sigh and ruffled her own fingers through her hair.

"AGH, I DON'T WANT YOU TO LEAVE!" She screeched out like a maniac which made me chuckle a little.

"I have to. It's part of our deal." I answered with a stinging pain in my chest.

Hanji composed herself before getting serious again.

Moodswings much?

Suddenly she grabbed ahold of my shoulder. Not hard but still firm enough empathize the words she was about to say.

"Just make sure you don't leave this place with unresolved issues."

I knew what she was referring to so I let my head hang low before eventually nodding.

"Good. Now let's both wash up and go have some dinner."

After a short shower I put on a fresh white shirt, some black pants and my boots from home, figuring it was already too late to put on our usual uniform.

The words of Hanji were still engraved in my mind as I passed Levi's office, hearing some muffeling coming from behind his door.

I stopped in my tracks, balling my fists and deciding wether this was a good idea or not.

He was coming to the meeting tomorrow aswell so I feared it would be even more awkward if we didn't talk now.

Collecting all the courage I had left I knocked on the door three times.

"Name state and business."

His deep voice made me nearly run away but I glued my feet to the wooden floor.

"It's...(Y/n). I would like a word with you, please." There was just a little tremor in my voice but I still managed to speak a whole sentence without fleeing from this tension.

My eyes, firmly fixed on the door for a couple of seconds widened when the handle made that familiar clicking sound.

There he was.

Standing in the doorframe with arms crossed.

His hair messy, wrinkled shirt and cravat, papers spread across the room,...

This wasn't like him but I didn't say anything and just followed his short gesture to enter.

Not sure what to do I stood there with my hands behind my back in the middle of his dimly lif office. Levi looked me up and down, leaning against his desk.

When he raised one eyebrow I assumed he was waiting for me to talk.

Taking a deep breath I watched him pick up his porcelain teacup before taking a small sip.

"I would like to apologize for not following orders properly. I just followed my gut and went for it like I always do. I know it was stupid but hey...what do you expect from someone like me?" I said jokingly, trying to lift this suffocating mood.

"You think this is funny?" He hissed, wiping the smile away from my face.

Wrong move.

I noticed the grip on his cup tighten ,clearly getting more and more furious.

Out of panic I abruptly saluted, keeping my head low.
Not making eyecontact and not making any sound was a tactic I had learned from my personal training with Seth. I knew what to do to minimalise the damage.

"No! Not at all, sir. I should've known better but I'm glad I did because I could save a couple of soldiers there and-"

"WELL YOU DIDN'T FUCKING SAVE THEM NOW DID YOU?! WHAT IF WE LOST YOU TOO?! HOW FAR WOULD YOU BE FROM GOING BACK HOME? TO YOUR HAPPY LITTLE FRIENDS? TO YOUR PERFECT LIFE?!" He exploded, nearly yelling out his lungs and speeded towards me while he kept ranting.

He stood right in front of me. I felt my ears ring and my body prepare itself for the possible beating. Tears were already falling on the ground but he didn't notice. The Captain was blinded by rage.

"So...rry..." I managed to whisper out, holding onto my salute for dear life.

"SORRY ISN'T GOING TO CUT IT. MY SQUAD IS GONE!" He answered and threw the teacup he still held in his hand with all his might at the wall behind me, shattering it into a hundred pieces.

"YOU ARE A SELFISH WOMAN AND IT WOULD'VE BEEN A WHOLE LOT BETTER IF YOU NEVER LANDED HERE WITH THAT STUPID THING. I WISH...I...I...wish...I never...."

He heavily breathed in and out before swallowing and closing his mouth. He must've realised my trembling body and quiet sobs as he now looked down aswell.

I couldn't bare it anymore.

This was a bad idea.

Turning around I bolted out of his office, nearly bumping into Mikasa who probably heard the whole ordeal. My sobs grew louder and louder but I kept running until reaching the main-door.

Once outside I felt cooling droplets of rain stain my hair and face but it wasn't for another 500 meters that I eventually stopped running. Sinking through my knees I grabbed the grass beneath me and balled my fists.

Letting out a long surpressed scream.
