August, 2004

I questioned why Erik wanted to meet my parents so early in the relationship. But I let him since he heard all these wonderful things about my mother and stepfather.  We've been friends since we were 17. We would always meet under a tree at the school and just talk about the future. We went to separate university's but we kept in touch, and did all our old traditions. Romantic chemistry has been there for a long time. But a couple months ago, he finally asked me to be his girlfriend.

"Welcome home Cathrine!" My mother exclaimed happily.

"Mom, this is Erik, we've been dating for a couple months now and he would like to meet you and Dad.

"Oh this is great! Come here, I have a nice dinner prepared"

We both sat down at the kitchen table waiting for the food when Erik introduced himself to my stepfather. He was kinda shocked at first that I had a boyfriend but accepting of it.

"Dinners ready!"

She made her signature tacos, my favorite food. Erik was silent for the first couple of minutes but got the hand of my family pretty quickly. And before I knew it, they were talking like old friends.

"That's when I said, You better fuck off or I'll fuck you"

"Oh my god honey, that's hilarious"

This went on until everyone was full. My mom actually allowed Erik to stay the night! I found that a bit weird, but I loved him and wanted to spend more time with him.

"Goodnight Lindsay!"

"Goodnight Erik"

I honestly did not know what to say about that, I was so confused that once we got to the guest bedroom I asked "Did you just call my mom by her first name?"

"Yeah of course I did, she's cool"

Once I did my night routine, I walked out of the bathroom to find Erik kind of staring at me. He looked nervous and was holding in something. I knew when he wanted to ask me something.

"Whats the question"

"Um, sorry if I upset you but where's your bio dad. You never talk about him"

I stared at him for about ten seconds before finally saying "He died when I was two years old. I don't remember him at all. They weren't even married so you can guess I was a mistake" I said with an awkward smile.

"Well I guess they made a happy accident" he said happily and kissed me on the forehead. It soothed me and eventually I fell fast asleep.
