Sophie watched as the ambulance pulled her parents away down the street.
Everything had gone wrong in a matter of what, thirty minutes? Had it only been thirty minutes since her parents had been walking around perfectly fine?
It didn't matter now. Now they were dead.
Sophie sat motionless at the edge of the sidewalk next to Amy who was crying her eyes out. There was a social worker that was coming to take them to a foster home according to the police.
But Sophie didn't want a new family. Not so soon. And why wouldn't any of her other family members take her in? It just didn't make sense. But nothing that day had.
It only got worse as she spotted a few of her friends coming down the sidewalk in either direction. Linh, Biana, and Dex came from her left. Dex must not have left for Washington yet. And To her dismay, Keefe and Marella came from the other. No sign of her boyfriend. What a jerk.
Biana and Dex made it there first. "Sophie, what happened. Marella called and said one of us might want to talk to you, and then we heard the sirens, so we were really worried" Biana said, sitting down in her other side.
Sophie watched for a minute as Dex talked to Amy, tears still streaming down her face as she told him the story.
Sophie looked back at Biana and felt the first tears start to come. "I came home to Amy screaming at our parents to wake up, but they weren't asleep. They were-" she choked up on the last words. She wasn't ready to admit it out loud. Not yet.
She looked up, realizing how many people were really there, and she started to panic. No. This wasn't the time for this. She couldn't cry in front of them...
But she did anyways. She kept crying.
And crying.
And crying, until she couldn't. It felt like an eternity, but eventually somone tapped her shoulder. It wasn't Amy. Or a cop. Or one of her friends.
Instead, a woman dressed in a pastel pink blouse and a long teal skirt, and a head of curled golden blonde hair smiled faintly above her. "Hello, you two must be the Foster siblings. I am Oralie, your social worker. I've come to deliver you to your new family"
Short chapter, but I liked this ending, so guess you have to wait until the next to find out what happens :3
