17.

you were just 17 years old but knew how tough and cruel life can be. most 17 year olds are thinking about college and graduation but you? your only thoughts were: am i able to eat the next day?

life was tough. jobless dad always sitting around and drinking. you get it though. life got tough without mom but you still managed to help out.

"dad you need to take your meds" you tell him as you pour him a glass of water. what could you do when times get tough? oh, and your younger brother? he managed too. he is just a year younger but he was still your baby brother.

"jae, make sure you get the food shelf food tomorrow on your way back home. we ain't got money this month" you tell your younger brother.

but as said before, you three get through it. i mean y'all are still breathing right?

                                ✦

"can you believe they got together" your bestfriend whispered at the lunch table.
slowly putting the fried potatoes in your mouth, you gave absolute zero fucks about anything that has relations with school.

"mhm" you groaned as you narrowed your eyes into literally nothing. "y/n are you even listening to me?" your bestfriend whining like she always does. "yeah yeah of course, Jenny got with Eric right" you assumed.

"no silly it's mia and jen" she corrects you. "yeah that's what i meant" you defended yourself. "y/n you are ignoring me again!" she complains.

rolling your eyes, the bell ring saving your ass, once again. "cant miss class can we?" you say sarcastically. rolling her eyes you both grab your bags before heading out.

the third eviction notice was like a permanent tattoo in your inner thoughts. you wouldn't stop worrying. since your dad got fired months ago, you have been worried sick.

"y/n would you mind answering the next question please" asked your math teacher. you hated her fake ass so much mainly because she targeted you the most. but once she sees mr ling, she be switching up.

"it should 34.54" you responded. shocked by your correct answer she crosses her arms. "and care to explain how you got it?" she asked as if what she asked was smart. chuckling you stood up.

you walked to the white board and wrote down exactly how you the answer. and before you went you rolled your eyes at her. "miss y/n we don't tolerate bad attitude-"

"and i don't tolerate fake bitches but you don't see me complaining-" you thought but instead you apologize. you don't want these school facilities acting up and stressing your dad out.

                                 ✦

"jae, dad! I'm home" you scream once home. you hear chatter in the kitchen so that's where you head to. "oh hey uncle how you doing" you say once you see your dads best friend and also his plug, if you know what i mean.

"ah hey kiddo, how you holding up" he asks.
"I'm good, still in school, you know how it is"
"yeah yeah, stay in school though, it be tough out here in the streets and don't know if you can handle it" he chuckled.

"uncle quit playing with me, you know I'm tough"
"nah I'm just playing but for real, it's hella tough, stay in school and get a good job" he smiles. "speaking of jobs uncle i need one" you ask.

he looks at your dad then back at you, then back at your dad. "no!" you dad says to your uncle. "oh c'mon, she's old enough, she even got the attitude and everything-"
"fuck no, that's my daughter. no is no" he insisted.

"aight cool" your uncle says and he started to walk off. "you ain't you gonna tell me uncle?" you pouted. "I'll let you know if something opens up sweetie. study hard though!" he says before leaving.

"what were you two talking about dad?"
"nothing honey, go check on jae"
