Seraphina looked up at the clock and sighed.
She glanced around the room.
Her teammates were scattered at different desks, and for obvious reasons, the Lagora students were in a different room.
Seraphina met eyes with Oliver. She mouthed an apology, and he shrugged with a calm expression, indicating he didn't blame her for anything.
Out of nowhere, a piece of paper folded into a heart slipped onto her desk. She caught it and looked at McGonagall in panic. Fortunately, the professor was too busy grading papers to notice. Seraphina opened the paper and read the note. '
Thanks for saving me, love! You're the best!'
Seraphina glanced back, and Fred winked at her with a grin. She rolled her eyes but smiled and tucked the note in her pocket.
About half an hour later, Mcgonagall took off her spectacles and approached them. She clasped her wrist in front of her and swept her gaze over each of the members of the Gryffindor team. "I hope all of you learned your lesson today. Violence is not the answer to anything. If I catch you fighting again, you will not be allowed to participate in quidditch for the rest of the year. Understood?"
"Yes, professor," everyone chimed.
"You're dismissed," she said, and they hustled towards the door.
"Miss Blakewood," Mcgonagall called.
Seraphina stopped in her tracks and flinched. She turned around and meekly said, "Yes?"
"I'd like a word, please." Mcgonagall motioned her over.
Harry leaned in and whispered, "Do you want me to wait?"
Seraphina shook her head. "No, go ahead. It's Mcgonagall, not Snape."
Harry nodded and left.
Seraphina looked at her favorite professor and sighed. She hated disappointing her, and she shuffled forward. "Professor, I'd like to apologize for today. It's all my fault and-"
Mcgonagall held out a palm and gave her a look. "Slow down, Miss Blakewood. I didn't hold you back to blame you for anything." Seraphina shut her mouth and looked down. A few seconds later, she mumbled, "I'm still sorry though." Mcgonagall noticed her bruised nose and sighed. "I know why you started the fight. I heard a certain Lagora student has been giving you trouble for a while now. You should've told me."
"It's not a big deal, professor. I can handle it."
"That's the problem. I know you can, and you probably will in a manner that makes you look like a troublemaking buffoon."
"I'm sorry."
"Enough apologies, Miss Blakewood. Again, I'm not trying to chastise you. I just... want to make sure you're all right." Mcgonagall looked at her with concerned eyes.
"I'm perfectly fine," Seraphina said with an eager nod.
"If you'd like, we can have a talk with Mr. Fernsby-"
"Oh, no. Please no. I'm fine. Really." She just knew that would only make things worse.
Mcgonagall opened her mouth but shut it, as if she just realized it'd be better to let the students handle it. "Well, let me know if things get out of hand. I know I said no violence... but well... acts of self-defense can be excusable." She touched the back of her neck and cleared her throat.
