Ch. 28

Chapter 28:

"Remus are you sure we have to head down now?" I whispered frantically as we headed down the Shrieking Shack.

"Yes, Tessa, we must! Look on the map!" Remus points to the specks as footprints trail behind them. "Padfoot has already grabbed Ron and Wormtail and Hermione and Harry are trailing right after. We have to explain to them or else Sirius could get caught!"

"Damnit, why did Sirius grab Ron now? I thought we were supposed to wait!" I replied rushing up the stairs.

"We were but Padfoot must've seen Pettigrew early! It's not like it's easy to communicate with him, you know that Tessa." We open the doors to the shack and are faced with Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Harry is standing over Sirius Black with his wand out while Ron is sitting back on the floo, clutching his leg along with Pettigrew. "Expelliarmus!" Remus yelled, Harry's wand flew across the room.

"Tessa? Professor?" Hermione questioned as Remus strode over to help Sirius to his feet and embrace him in a hug. "I knew it! You were helping him get in! I kept your secret for you, I shouldn't have!"

"Mione-" I start, but Ron interjects.

"Tessa? I can't believe you were working with him!"

"Guys, if you would just let me explain-" I started again, but Hermione interrupted me.

"I kept your secret for you!" Hermione bellowed at Remus. "I should've known you were helping him get in the castle! He's- He's a werewolf! Professor Lupin is a werewolf!" Harry looks stunned and looks at me with hurt eyes. If they just let me explain.

"Clever girl Miss Granger. How long have you known?" Remus asked calmly.

"Since the werewolves essay Snape assigned us," Hermione answered.

"A very clever girl indeed, one of the brightest witches of her age might I say. Miss Granger, you are wrong about me helping Sirius Black into the castle, he did that on his own accord, but I will not deny that I am a werewolf."

"Harry! I told you! This man betrayed your parents! And Tessa has been helping them out! I told you she hasn't changed!" Ron bellowed.

"If you would just let me expla-" I began.

"She's evil! Harry I told you so!" Ron yelled out again. These words pierced my heart and I slowly closed my mouth. I turned to Remus slowly and whispered to him.

"I don't think I can do this, can you please explain," Remus pushed me behind him in a protective manner.

"Now, now Ron. Please do not come out with accusations when we haven't explained anything yet."

"How do we know we can trust you?" Harry questioned Remus confidently. Remus threw them their wands while we dropped ours to the ground.

"There, you're armed, we're not. Now may we please explain ourselves?" Remus asked, the trio gave small nods as Sirius began to explain.

"Harry, I was best friends with your parents. Heck I was even James' best man at his wedding. I was appointed your godfather when you were born. When the war began, I was set to be the Potter's secret keeper. But James thought it would've been too obvious since I was their best friend. So we had our friend Peter Pettigrew be the secret keeper instead. The night your parents were killed, I went after Peter, knowing he ratted them out to You-Know-Who. Long story short there, Pettigrew faked his death, I was accused and got taken into Azkaban when it was really Pettigrew who killed all those people.

I had met Tessa in Azkaban, I was honestly so heartbroken when I heard her story. We had cells next to each other. I was touched she trusted me to keep her secret. Knowing she'd be going back to Hogwarts soon, I had asked her to team up with Remus to make a plan. A plan to be able to meet up with you and tell the truth. And to get rid of Pettigrew- no he is not dead he is very much alive. She had been so kind enough to take up the opportunity to be the person to reunite me with my godson. I just wanted you to know the truth."

"It's true," Remus added. "Right before Tessa came to Hogwarts she sent me a letter explaining everything. I was a bit hesitant at first, especially because some part of me thought Sirius really did betray your parents. But I finally realized the truth and put the pieces together. Tessa and I have been planning an explanation with Sirius to present to you for months now. Tessa's job was to get you to trust her. We were going to explain this all to you before you met with Sirius. This plan was supposed to make this whole encounter less chaotic, but there was a clear spontaneous change of plans." Remus nudged Sirius jokingly.

"I'm sure you know Tessa's story?" Sirius asked the trio. Harry nodded his head while Hermione and Ron exchanged confused looks. "Ah, I see. Well not my story to tell but Tessa, do you have anything to add?" There was a moment of silence before I spoke.

"I wanted nothing but to help you, Harry. When Sirius told me what happened, I felt like I needed to help. I also want you to know that none of the friendship was fake. Yes, I did start talking to you because I had to execute the plan, but nonetheless I think of you as a true friend." Ron and Hemione both gave me apologetic looks while Harry smiled.

"Now, as much as I would hate to break up this moment, I really need the rat," Sirius said pointing to Ron, who was still clutching Pettigrew. With hesitation, Ron reluctantly handed Remus the rat, where to no surprise, was turned into Pettigrew. The trio all looked at the plump, balding man with wide eyes. Sirius was prepared to kill him, but Harry had interrupted, suggesting we turn Pettigrew in and Sirius gets set free. We bound the rat's hands together, attaching him to Remus, grabbed our wands, and headed out of the Shrieking Shack.

a/n: Hello hi im sorry it took so long to update. And before anyone says anything YES i changed the story, a lot. Things like Snape entering the shack and Remus just realizing that Sirius is innocent had been changed. I know it is not in the original series but it was an author's choice. I wanted to change it because I wanted this story to be different, not just an exact copy of the original story with my own OC. I hope you guys understand.  Also I want to start doing Q and A sections at the end of each chapter where I answer as the characters. So please leave questions so I can start answering them next chapter!
