((Chloe's POV))

We were going down the muddy path for a while before we hit water. Things went more smoothly. We rode around a bunch of trees and went into some tunnels.

"This is kinda nice!" I yelled at Laurie, as the airboat was very loud.

"Yeah!" She yelled back.

We kept going until we reached an area with concrete walls.

"Oh shit!" The man screamed.

"What?" I yelled.

"These are gates into other cities, the combine must b-" He was cut off by the sound of a siren.

Soon, there were combine soldiers everywhere. I panicked and held Laurie's hand, expecting to be shot right there. But the man hit a button and we turned and almost flew out of the area. We sped very fast to an open field area, the sound of a helicopter was heard in the distance, they must've really wanted us dead!

There was a small ramp that would throw us up onto a platform and that led us to a pipe. We hit the ramp and barely made it, we drove through the pipe and the helicopter sound faded.

"Alright, so they know we're here." The man said.

"All we have to do is go down through this tunnel and out the other end, that'll lead us to another open field area and then we'll be able to get into yet another tunnel. We'll be able to travel underground from there so don't worry about going in and out of tunnels." The man explained.

We drove down the tunnel and I started to hear the sound of a helicopter in the distance.

"Great!" I yelled

Laurie was clearly uncomfortable so I held her hand and smiled at her. She gave me a nervous smile back. We hit the end of the tunnel and sped out, the helicopter was right above our heads. We got closer and closer to the entrance of the next tunnel but of course with out luck, it wasn't that easy.

There was a sound, it sounded like a low pitched charging noise and it got higher pitched. and before I knew it, the helicopter sprayed bullets.

Me and Laurie screamed and ducked until the bullets stopped. We enter the tunnel and the man stopped the airboat and pulled over.

"What are you doing?!" Laurie asked.

The man fell out of the airboat, breathing heavily twice and then his breathing stopped. He got shot twice in the back.

"No!" Laurie cried out

"Oh my god!" I sighed

"Well great, now he's dead! How will we ever get to that guy's lab?" Laurie asked.

"Wait, he did say to go straight and we'd get there, didn't he?" I asked.

"I don't think so?" Laurie responded. "Did he?"

"It's worth a try, I mean it's our only option." I explained.

"Okay, I'll drive this thing. Get in." She said while hopping into the drivers seat.

I got down into the passengers seat and Laurie pressed a button, turning the airboat on. She put her foot down onto the gas pedal and we sped off down the tunnel. I looked back to see the mans body floating in the shallow water.

We kept going down the tunnel and eventually we drove to a dead end. We got out of the airboat and climbed a ladder that led up to a concrete platform. we walked around a large, half destroyed building.

"Is this it?" Laurie asked. "The lab?"

"Hmm It's a little small." I commented

Laurie walked around the building and I stayed out front.

"Hey! Over here!" Laurie yelled.

I ran around the building and Laurie was pushing barrels out of the way.

"Behind these things!" Laurie said.

We pushed the barrels back and walked through a door. It was a bright room and it had a part of the wall that looked like it could be used as a window.

That part of the wall went down and a woman in a white turtleneck shirt appeared.

"Don't mind this, can't take any chances" She said.

Right after she said that, four little objects in each corner of the room shot out lasers, connecting the four and creating a flat laser that ran across the room. The thing went down and it seemed like it scanned us.

"Alright, you can come in." She said.

The big door opposite to the door we came into opened up and we were greeted by the woman.

"Hello. My name is Judith Mossman." She said "May I ask how you girls got here?"

"Well, a man was driving us her but he was shot, He died a few miles back." I explained.

"Oh no, was it Paole?" She asked.

"He never told us his name but he was an older man, he has a glass shank, and was very threatening." I explained.

She chuckled and said "Yeah, that's Paole, too bad he died though. He got citizens out and towards White Forest in no time."

"Yeah, he explained that he would take us to his camp up north an-" Judith cut me off

"Wh-wh-whoah." She exclaimed. "That camp was destroyed months ago!" She said.

"Months?!" Laurie asked.

"Yes. Months." She replied. "He must've been losing his mind."

"Well there are only two ways through here to get on the right track to White Forest. But you're gonna need some help." Judith explained

"Alyx!" Judith yelled.

"What?" A woman yelled back.

"Get in here, you have more citizens to take to White Forest!" Judith yelled.

After a couple of minutes, a girl entered the room.

"Hello. I'm Alyx! You two must be?" She asked

"I'm Laurie and this is my sister Chloe." Laurie responded.

"Alright. So you two want to get to White Forest?" Alyx asked.

"Yes, I think. Whatever gets us away from the City." I answered.

"Okay! You two look like you need some rest. I'll take you downstairs to the bunker." She explained.

We stepped into the elevator and she pressed the button labeled "Bunker".

"Oh! I almost forgot! I have 2 other citizens with me, I'll be taking all 4 of you." She said

I nodded and the elevator beeped. We stepped out into the bunker.

"Alright, sleep well. We need to leave early tomorrow." She said before getting into the elevator and going back upstairs.

Me and Laurie shared one of the bunk beds. I was on the bottom one.

"Finally. Some sleep." Laurie yawned.

"Mmhmm" I responded.

My vision eventually faded and it was like I went into a coma, I slept like a log.
