Getting up each morning. Where do I begin. If it was a school day, God take an axe and kill me. But no, it was the second day of the summer not that anyone is counting. Damn America is hot. Sweat pooling onto my bed, creating an indoor swimming pool. Gross, I know. I finally had he blooming audacity to get off from my ass and go take a shower.
The bathroom was colder than usual, the faint smell of sweat and Head and shoulders filled my nose. Disgusted I walked into the shower. The ice water trickled down my back, cleansing each sweaty part of my body. Patting myself dry with a towel, I was ready for another day of wonder what is life.
"Sebby," I knew that voice, and that nickname. I simply loathed Leona, my plucky sister. Having a sister in college and still calling you a nickname bullies gave you is just plain torture. Walking downstairs, there she was. Wearing a pastel tie dye tube top, black denim shorts and Nike Air forces. She would never be caught dead in that
"How's my fave bro lol, " She screamed, clutching 2 tote bags, and a Frappuccino. Annoyed, I plucked up the guys to ask what her deal was. Before I spoke, she threw two strips of paper at me. "Get ready for the travelling carnival," She squealed as she ran into the living room.
"I'm not going," I firmly shouted, I hated fun. What I found fun was lying in bed and crying. Carnivals are just places to lose money and make memories you are most likely to forget anyway. "Why?" Her voice made my eardrums bleed. "Are you still mad about Mom?" She asked, in a softer tone
The truth about Mom hurts to believe, she cheated, stealed to make everything her way. "Look sport, it's not your fault so stop grieving and relax a bit, ok?". She's so persuasive, I had to give in. " "Ok fine," I replied, groaning. "Thanks bro!" She yelled. The last outing I've had with her, was back in middle school, to a community play of High school musical, nearly dying each second as she sung an off key performance of every song played.
Nearly tearing down my wardrobe for a presentable outfit for a time wasting carnival. All I found was Dad's old polo, and ripped jeans. That will do, I guess. After that quick change, we headed out. I never knew the sun was this bright. Blinding my poor eyes. "See it's not that bad,"
"Leona, we are flipping walking towards a blinding hazard"
"Stop being so Metaphorical and loosen up a little Sebby, "
"Ugh fine, "The carnival was huge, flashing lights that can actually cause a severe seizure constantly blinked, screams came from every direction known. It was hell.
"All riiiggghhhttt, " Leona seemed happy, running into the gates like a drunk lunatic. I followed after her to see all the rage. There she was, running round screaming at everything she saw.I don't understand her brain. She's stupid as always. I quietly found comfort at an old park bench. I watched as each kid wined and begged their parents to waste their money, teenagers making memories that will be forgotten. I hated this place, it was like saitan threw a party on earth.
I had enough of this place, standing up to leave, he was there. "Alright mate? " He called. He had a soft British accent that could steal girls hearts. I gazed at his jawline, shoulders and muscles pushed against his fashion sense.
"Helloooo, "
"Yes.. Uhm... Hi? " I sounded stupid. I wanted friends so bad, and I think I blew off my chance. But he didn't judge me like a fool, he just laughed.
"I swear I know you from somewhere, " Calling out like a little kid. He took his muscular hands from his pockets and sat down beside me"Elliot Springfield, " He introduced himself, " Pro basketballer, in your homeroom, " It instantly hit me. Elliot Springwood, the guy every talks to. "Oh yeah, Frick, " Muttering at each word.
"Hi... What are you doing talking to a nobody?"
" Since there's is no good bloody banging shit to do here, I noticed you in the crowd, "He noticed me. Pft. Nobody would, except for the teachers of course.
"Look here, do you want to go round together?" My heart stopped beating, "just as friends though," I nodded and we both started roaming around. Ferris wheels, roller coasters anything, my world started to brighten. He was just a friend. A friend. Ok I need to stop. I'm not gay. The fun we had together, I don't want it to stop. But sadly, all good things come to an end. The carnival lights shone in the night sky, like they replaced the stars. I needed to find Leona. But before I could, Elliot grabbed my wrist in a hurry and placed a small strip of yellow paper.
"Call me, I'll be listening, " He whispered and winked charmingly at me.I was flattered, I couldn't help myself. My first friend. This world is getting brighter and brighter.
