When walking into Freedom Church you immediately know that it was definitely a black southern church. Located in Charlotte, North Carolina,on the outside it looked very modern; on the inside it was painted in a calming blue and white, with gold accents. Then there were the Kente cloth accents, ambient lighting, blue chairs and glass podium. Freedom was what some would call a small big church. Its members topped out at about 700 people, which pushed the church to having two Sunday services. One at eight am and the other at ten thirty. Freedom was the kind of church where even the most sinful sinner feels welcome. It was built on love, family, and fellowship. For many it always felt like coming home. The church was known for its amazing praise dancers, praise team and choir, all had won multiple awards.
Beyoncé was entering Freedom running late for choir practice and she needed to be there because she and her nemesis were leading a song at Sunday services. As she entered the choir's practice room all eyes centered on her. Michelle, her nemesis, stared at her until she found her spot in the risers. Kevon, the choir director, was teaching a new song, You Deserve It by JJ Hairston and Youthful Praise. The next song would be the one that she and Michelle would lead at Sunday's service. It was Shackles by MaryMary. Beyoncé was ready to get the song done and over with. She didn't want to be close to Michelle for longer than she had to. Beyoncé and Michelle, had done their parts perfectly, now it was the choir that was messing up. As many times as they had done it flawlessly, two days before the debut, they want to start messing up. After four times they finally got it right and were about to go home for the night. But before they could all leave the section leaders had to stay for a quick meeting. That means Michelle, Beyoncé, Dallas, Toni, Dennis and Kevon would have to attend this meeting.
Beyoncé led the Altos, although she could sing soprano. Michelle led the sopranos but had a wide range also. Toni was the tenor leader although she could pull off alto too. Dennis and two others sang bass. Dallas was the band's leader. The smaller group sat down and began conversing among themselves. Though they all got along, there had always been tension between Beyoncé and Michelle. It seemed everyone picked up on the sexual tension between them, but them or so everyone thought. Their relationship was non-existent except for in the praise team/choir. A few moments later Kevon gathered them all together. He looked a little stressed and the others wondered why they looked like that.
"Alright, so first things first, we had an awesome rehearsal. Next time Ms.Thang," he said addressing Beyoncé, "tell us you're gonna be late. Okay? Next on the docket. I am moving to Los Angeles with Nick and the choir needs a new director. Soooooo next rehearsal I am holding director try-outs. Pick a song to teach the choir, Pastor Jones and I will decide on the new director."
"What do you mean you're moving?"
"What the heck?"
"Kevon, don't come for me unless sent for, honey. And what the heck you mean, you're moving?" Beyoncé said.
Michelle had chosen to stay quiet, Kevon was her best friend and she was wondering why she was just now hearing this. She felt some type of way about this situation. She would have to talk to him later about it.
The other two people present just shook their heads. Each person showing a different level of shock. Beyoncé quickly glanced at Michelle and took in the woman. She had never really looked at her before. Michelle was a beautiful woman with a bad attitude, at least towards Beyoncé she did. Beyoncé had long ago come to the conclusion that she liked woman, even with her attitude. She had a few relationships but none worked out. Beyoncé had been through some things in her relationship and her sexuality was something she rarely talked about. Michelle, though she kept her business to herself, but at the same time was a proud lesbian. She wasn't flashy with it but she didn't hide it either.
