Severus Snape was, to Harry, best described as childish. He smelled of greasy hair and various potion fumes and his shoes made a very distinct clomp-clomp against the Hogwarts floor. He is terrifying on his own, but it is only amplified by his unreasonable hatred for Harry.

The class periods they'd been through together (and the very uncomfortable evening when Harry had his panic-thing) have made Harry pick up on a lot of stuff (because he is not a complete dunderhead, he is able to use deductive reasoning.) Such as, Snape repeatedly insulting his father but never once his mother. Harry found that odd. He supposed that his father had wronged Snape somehow, and he was pushing the grudge onto the man's son.

It is childish.

The second the Professor caught onto him and Malfoy's growing rivalry, the man made sure to stick the two of them together as much as possible.

(At least- he did at first. The day after Malfoy apologized and offered his hand in friendship for the second time, something seemed to have shifted. Snape seemed to have been trying to seperate them more than push them together. Not that Harry was complaining- he'd take what relief from the new awkward conversations with Malfoy in the other classes. They all consisted of Malfoy being super nice, as if trying to prove he'd make a great friend or whatever, or doing stupid shit which made Harry have to stop him (Harry couldn't tell whether or not the stupid shit was purposefully done if he was being honest)- but it did not make it any less odd.

What had happened in hours seperating Malfoy's offer and Snape's class?

He supposed that it didn't matter.

Though potions was hard for Harry, with all the Slytherins sabatoging him and Snape berating his every move, Harry thoroughly enjoyed the class. It reminded him of cooking, the one chore at home he actually looked forward to. Of course, Harry's grades in the class were less than ideal (Slytherins just loved to slip the wrong ingredients in when he was not looking), but the school year was just barely beginning and Harry was sure he'd have to time bring it up.

Some time passed of awkwardly avoiding Malfoy, and for today's lesson, Harry was excited, shaking with joy. On the third week of October, it is tradition that everyone brew Amortentia. The results are thoroughly recorded and
compared year to year, to see progress and change in the individual's likes.

It's said to smell of who you love (if you have no romantic interest, even a small one, then it will smell of nothing. Though, this was an adnormal reaction, even at eleven, as only around seven percent of first years don't smell anything), and Harry is ever so excited for this part in particular (he is also excited because he gets to brew a high level potion: it's such fun to him). He always has had an exquisite sense of smell, and knew that once he smelt his potion, he'd be immediately able to recognize who the scent belonged to (unlike most others.) He also is looking forward to seeing who his classmates like, if they decide to speak about what they smelled.

Harry enters the class with a skip in his step and sits next to Hermione, who is just as eager. He considered sitting next to Ron... but he was spending less and less time with the boy lately. Ron didn't get him- didn't get his interest in potions or distaste for fame. He seemed a bit jealous, but he wasn't the only one. Neville had been avoiding him since the second dragon attack.

His train of thought was cut short by Snape's arrival into the class. He wastes no time in putting the instructions on the board, sorting them into pairs (Harry gets put with a dark skinned boy with a buzz cut who introduces himself as Blaise Zabini, he is quiet and so unlike Malfoy, who used to be usually his partner. He smelled lightly of lavender and cinnamon), and spitting some threats about how they "better keep their heads about them, lest you lose them." He is pointedly glaring at Harry all the while.
