Enough

...xXx...

The morning light from the half-opened curtain woke him up from his peaceful slumber. His hand automatically reached out for the warm body beside him. A smile curled on his lips as he felt a slim arm draped across his waist. Sighing happily, he murmured, "Morning, Kanade."

He smiled as she sleepily replied, "Morning, Yuzuru."

Still with his eyes closed, he pulled his girlfriend's small body up so that he could hear her steady heartbeat, which had become theirs.

Her heart was his, and if he still had his heart, he held no doubt that it would always be hers and beat only for her.

Kanade had told him about how she had lived because of his heart. He had been shocked when he learned the truth after he confessed his desire to stay behind to help the others to move on. Her greatest regret was she was unable to say thank you to him. He had been afraid then, afraid that she, too, would leave him. Yet, he knew he couldn't keep her if she wanted to move on. Much to his surprise and delight, Kanade never said what she wanted to say. Instead, she had agreed to stay behind, to stay with him. She knew how it felt when the one you cherished and cared for disappear, leaving you behind. Her decision to stay was enough to show him how much she cared about him.

Opening his eyes, he looked up at the golden-eyed girl who was currently running her fingers through his messy hair. A shy blush spread across her beautiful face as he slipped his hand under the back of her shirt before pulling himself up so that they were on the same eye-level. His fingers splayed on her small, naked back as he leaned forward, kissing her lips softly. After a few moments of nipping her lower lips, she finally relented and let him kiss her more thoroughly.

They both were flushing as they pulled apart. He leaned closer to her ear as he softly whispered, "I love you, Kanade."

As they looked at each other, she smiled. "I love you, Yuzuru."

Their happy moment was interrupted as a light tingling sensation came through them. After sharing a smile, he kissed her one last time before letting her go to get ready. A new soul had arrived, and it was time for them to offer whatever help they could to assist the newcomer. They both had lost count of how many souls they had helped. Time was no longer significant as they both had each other. The most important thing was that they were happy. And that was enough.

The End
