On our way

I get a call from Aya, it isn't unusual. She calls me a lot these days, which isn't a bad thing of course. I really like Ayma, but this time her call stops my music. I quickly pick up the phone, at first when I try to slide the button the phone apparently doesn't register it? It's quite annoying actually, just let me answer the call! But when I try again it works.

"Hi Laps." I hear the familiar voice say.

"Hello, Ay."

"So, I was wondering." She says.

"Hey, wondering about what?"

"Let me finish the sentence! Anyways..."

"You stopped talking for a second, and I couldn't wait to hear what you have on your mind." I quickly respond as she's fumbling with her words.

"Let me talk!"  I think the signal on her end is a bit bad since her voice lags.

"Fine, okay..."

"So I was wondering if you wanted to go to the uh park, for like a picnic." She says it pretty quickly, maybe because I seem to interrupt her.

"Anyone joining?"

"Uh, Ernest and Possolia."

"Let me ask, who is Possolia, is he your friend?" I know who Ernest is, course, he's my fucking best friend. Why wouldn't I know who he is? Why am I even asking myself that, I know who he is?

"You mean who is SHE." Woah Aya, calm down there.

"Sorry, ma'am, who is SHE then?" I always call her ma'am when she's pissed, I find it funny. I don't know if she does though. Probably not. Whatever.

"Met her in the reading club." After Ayma is mad at something she lowers her voice, and I utterly don't know why.

"That damn reading club." She's obsessed with that reading club, always talking about how much she loves it.

"Hey! Anyways, I think you'll like her." Are you so sure now? I don't usually like people as much as I probably should. It took me at least a year to open up to Ernest and Aya.

"Don't get your hopes up, Ay."

"Yeah yeah, I know how it went last time." The last time she's talking about is; One time she tried introducing me to someone new since I'm not that sociable. I ended up completely embarrassing myself, I won't go into details. It's simply too embarrassing for me to endure again. But basically, I spilt coffee down the person's shirt, then proceeded to fall flat-faced into the ground. Don't ask me why. I don't know the answer either.

"Do I have to bring anything with me?"

"Not really, I have the most under control, maybe your speaker."

"Alright."

"Wait! Make sure to bring a good mood!"

"I'm afraid that isn't possible." I hate when she asks me about that, no ma'am it's not possible, sorry to disappoint I guess. Maybe ask me in ten years certainly not now. But I'm not promising anything, remember that.

"I'll pick you up at 12:44." At least pick an even number, for god's sake.

"Okay, love you." Then I hang up. I have exactly 9 minutes to get ready, I mean there isn't much I have to change. So I guess I already am ready. But I could maybe change my shirt to another one. I take my light green ribbed vest, and my short sleeve collared shirt on, instead of my sweatshirt. Aya and Ernest probably wouldn't mind if I just had my old sweatshirt on. But you know, dress to impress. Or maybe not; I don't know.

It's currently 12:43. I've packed my little tote bag with everything, I'm waiting outside, she'll be here any minute now. Or this minute; It's now 12:44.

She's here now!

"Come on now, we don't want to be late!" Aya gestured to the back of her bicycle.

"I'm supposed to sit there?"

"Yeah, if you don't want to walk all the way to the park." I have tried riding on a bicycle with someone else, but it wasn't pleasant. But I guess I have to. I mean it isn't a long walk, but I would much rather not.

"Okay, fine." I walk up to her and position myself on the back of the bicycle. It isn't necessarily comfortable, but it works. I guess.

"You have everything?" She asks before we take off.

"I think so, speaker, some candy, phone and keys?"

"Then you have everything, at least everything we need." She gives me a helmet, and as I give her my bag. She puts it in the front basket, along with her bag.

"Ready to go?"

"Yeah."

The wind blows against my face, it's nice. There isn't much wind since it's almost burning hot every day. Change is good sometimes. I can see the corner of the park now, trees are hanging over the marble arch that leads into the park. A few leaves fall onto the grass ground. They're a purplish-blue. Almost a violet-esk colour. I can hear Aya's heavy breathing, I imagine it's hard pedalling with the extra weight of an actual person. I don't blame her. She finally slows down; we're here.

"Finally," She says as she grasps after the air.

I look at my little watch.

"It's a 12:48."

"4 minutes? That's a new record!" I laugh as she says it.

"So you don't do this often?"

"Sometimes I and Ernie go here, he is so god damn heavy! It normally takes double the time."

"I don't blame you, he's tall as a fucking skyscraper!"

"Totally, when will that boy stop growing? I'm concerned."

I walk over to our bags in the basket. I take mine and hand Aya hers.

"No reason not to be."

Aya smiles as a silent 'thanks'.
