The smell of flowers smacked you in the face as you exited the shelter, a white curly mutt running in front of you. She pounced on a nearby butterfly, jumping up as it lazily floated away from her paws. Annoyed, she marched back to your side and jumped up on your knees. Laughing, you picked her up and hugged her, making sure her blue collar was visible against the snow white fur.

"Are you ready to get lunch?" Your boyfriend, George, had just walked out of the shelter, car keys swinging at his side.

"Yup. How about we go to the pizza place downtown? I heard it's really good, and pet friendly." You opened the car door and put the little pup in the backseat before climbing into the drivers seat.

"Sure. Want to drive, do ya?" George raised his eyebrows, eyeing you as you put your hand out for the keys. He sighed as you didn't move, plopping the keys into your hand. The white ball of fur in the backseat started jumping all over the place, only calming down when George placed a hand on her head.

"What should we name her?" You inquired, pulling the car out of the parking lot.

"Hmm. Let's look it up on Google." Vigorously reaching over to smack the phone out of his hands, you hit the accelerator and shoot out into the road.

"We will not be naming our baby girl after something on a top ten female dog names of 2018 list. That is a big no from me." You growled, taking a left.

"Fine. But how should we name her then?"

"Careful planning and our brains."

"Well we've got twenty minutes to kill, let's go."

The past fifteen minutes had mostly been George rambling on about different names and you turning down all of them. Finally, coming to a stop, he sighed and crossed his arms.

"Seriously? You don't want to name her Snowball." He pouted, grabbing the pup and placing her on his lap.

"Snowball?! Hell no. You think she's some kind of softie?" You gripped the steering wheel as the car slowed to a stop.

"Well what do you want her name to be, Miss Creative?"

"Harriet." You said simply, pulling into the restaurants parking lot.

"Harriet? That's the wors- actually, it's not that bad." George looked down at the mass of floof as you grabbed her matching blue leash.

"We will name her Harriet and that's final. Now cmon, I want to eat." George opened the door and the newly named Harriet jumped out of the car. Clipping her leash on, you marched into the pizzeria and went straight to the ordering counter. George followed behind you and Harriet, like a lost puppy himself.

"Good afternoon! How may I help you?" The man at the counter exclaimed, pulling out a pen and paper. You put on a winning smile and looked up at the menu.

"I'll have two slices of pepperoni, squared. And for my drink, I'll have a water please." The man scribbled something down on the slip, then turned to George.

"I'll have a regular plain cheese slice. Sweetened ice tea please."

"And for the puppy?" The worker smiled at Harriet, pointing towards their pet menu.

"She will have your finest dog slice with pepperoni. Exactly eight pepperonis and an ice cream treat. Please." You gestures towards a bowl of water. "And one of those, colder than Antarctica."

The man just nodded, yelling back to his other workers before seating them and announcing that their food would be ready soon. A couple other booths were taken, showing that they were pretty overrun.

Setting Harriet next to you in the booth, you rubbed her back and told her to be good, knowing she was on the brink of dashing away. You had waited so long, almost a year, to get past the adoption papers and claim her. Now she wasn't going anywhere but with you and George.

As the pizza arrived and Harriet's food, you watched her gobble down her puppy pizza and smiled to yourself.

"Do you think we will get along good with her?" George said, taking a bite of pizza.

"Definitely."
